Posted Job Title Assistant Manager B (Research) (Machine Biology Group) Job Profile Title Assistant Manager B, Research Job Description Summary The Assistant Manager B (Research) will serve as a strategic partner to the Principal Investigator (PI), overseeing research operations and aligning them with institutional goals to achieve the lab's mission. This position combines advanced project management, operational leadership, and expertise in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The Assistant Manager B will manage complex research initiatives, streamline workflows, and ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations, driving innovation and growth within the lab. Job Description Job Responsibilities: The candidate will be responsible for the following work: -- Advising the PI on strategic alignment of lab activities with institutional goals and oversee resource allocation. -- Managing research projects, including developing innovative tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting. -- Overseeing administrative functions, including recruitment, onboarding, and compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies. -- Managing procurement, inventory, and logistics for national and international collaborations. -- Coordinating lab events, including symposiums, seminars, and collaborative meetings. -- Acting as a liaison for interdisciplinary teams, administrative staff, and external collaborators. -- Implementing strategies to enhance lab efficiency, optimize workflows, and improve resource allocation. Responsibility Breakdown: -- Strategic Advising and Alignment - serve as a key advisor to the PI, aligning lab activities with strategic institutional goals; oversee resource allocation and ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulations. -- Research Operations Leadership - manage complex research projects, timelines, and deliverables to meet strategic objectives; develop innovative tools and methodologies for data collection, analysis, and reporting. -- Executive Administrative Oversight - direct high-level administrative functions, including personnel recruitment, onboarding, operational logistics, and compliance management; ensure alignment with federal, state, and institutional safety and compliance standards. -- Resource Management - oversee procurement and tracking of specialized equipment and materials; renew memberships, process reimbursements, and coordinate logistics for collaborations. -- Event Coordination - lead the planning and execution of lab events, including symposiums, seminars, and collaborative meetings; develop communication strategies to promote research findings and foster partnerships. -- Stakeholder Engagement - act as the primary liaison for interdisciplinary teams, administrative staff, external collaborators, and funding agencies. -- Process Improvement - identify and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, optimize workflows, and improve resource allocation. -- Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Management, or a related field is preferred, and a Master's degree or equivalent specialized experience is strongly preferred. Proven experience in research or academic environments and familiarity with University of Pennsylvania systems are highly desirable. The candidate should have leadership and project management expertise, advanced proficiency in project management software, operational tools, and data analysis platforms, experience in procurement, compliance, and logistics in a research-intensive setting, strong communication and interpersonal skills for fostering inclusivity in a diverse workplace, and proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines. This position requires a highly motivated individual to manage and align lab operations effectively. This position is contingent upon funding. Job Location - City, State Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Department / School Perelman School of Medicine Pay Range $43,919.00 - $70,000.00 Annual Rate Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
