![]() Assistant Professor - History Job Type Full-time Description Job ID FU9836-0010-1833 Position Classification FT Faculty UDMPU (9 month) Position Summary The History Department in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS) at the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) invites candidates to apply for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the assistant professor rank. The candidate hired will start August 16, 2025. Detroit Mercy is dedicated to developing a diverse and inclusive academic community, within an urban context. The College's faculty forms a vibrant community of teaching scholars, with an emphasis on student-centered teaching, and academic mentorship of students. The History Department offers a 36-credit hour major in History and 18-credit hour minor in History and Museum Studies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will teach six courses a year, maintain an active research agenda, and engage in service activities. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching a survey of U.S. History since 1877 and upper-division courses in their area(s) of specialization. We seek an educator with expertise in Modern American History who is an enthusiastic teacher-scholar with a strong interest in implementing best practices in teaching pedagogy, including evidence-based teaching and assessment strategies, a strong commitment to supporting a diverse population of students, and who can contribute to the College's robust intellectual environment. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to engage and support first generation and historically marginalized students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Candidates are expected to provide evidence of a research agenda appropriate for a primarily undergraduate institution and to demonstrate their ability and interest to disseminate results in peer-reviewed publications and conferences.
