Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Internships and Career Services for the Institute of Politics (IOP) is responsible for driving internship and career-related programming. This includes the administration of established programming such as career roundtables, and piloting new programming such as skill-based workshops. However, the incumbent will create new internship opportunities and build relationships with organizations to build new recruitment relationships. The Director works closely with other public service directors at Harvard College and Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) to ensure collaborative, comprehensive, substantive, and formative career-focused programming for Harvard College undergraduates interested in pursuing summer internships and post-graduation opportunities in politics and public service.

The successful candidate will have prior professional experience working with students, preferably undergraduate student populations, and have a strong desire to encourage their professional pursuits and involvement in both public service and the political process. The successful candidate will also possess:

Experience and/or interest in politics, prior experience working with internship programs or career services
Ability to steward professional relationships, partnerships, and networks
Creative drive to ideate, develop, and implement new programming and pipelines
Ability and interest in working in a fast-paced campus environment and manage multiple competing priorities and timelines
Ability to deftly change gears and contexts
Skill in developing data collection and tracking systems
Strong customer service orientation

Position Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop, execute, and assess internship and career-related programs, including the schedule of events, outreach, tracking, collection, and evaluation of feedback
Review the current process and make enhancements; Manage the application, selection, and orientation processes for the Internships and Career Services (ICS) programs (1,000+ annually)
Work with the Executive Director to identity potential speaker and partner opportunities, manage event logistics for weekly events during the academic year
Work with the Director of Finance & Administration to manage finances and maintain funding records for internship opportunities and summer stipend program
Collaborate with counterparts in other Harvard centers and relevant University offices on joint funding of student financial awards and represent the Institute?s interests at meetings of these groups
Serve as subject matter expert and principal point of contact and liaison for program constituents, principal source of information on established program policies, advise students on the on-campus public service recruiting process
Participate in committees around the development of career services across the University
Maintain all program records (e.g., financial, administrative, applications, student)
Design and Recommend to the Executive Director to devise and implement strategies for targeting student audiences, promote programming to the Harvard undergraduate community
Maintain database of employer partnership contacts and profiles, research and suggest new employer partnership pipeline opportunities
Develop focused research profiles, prospect lists, identifies networks and analysis of philanthropic interests for fundraising staff University-wide.
Provide and direct high level, creative prospect identification and pipeline building strategies.
Keep abreast of current events, philanthropic trends, due diligence methodologies, and Harvard?s fundraising objectives.
Takes initiative to identify strategies for providing actionable insights that help turn prospects into donors.
Collaborates with development colleagues in HKS?s Alumni Relations & Resource Development.
In collaboration with others, plans and executes select events related to the cultivation, solicitation and/or stewardship of leadership and major gift prospects and donors.
Serves as an ambassador for the Institute and possesses ability to articulate IOP?s mission, priorities, and program updates in compelling ways to prospects, donors and other key stakeholders.
Work in collaboration with IOP colleagues on Institute-wide projects and other special programs as needed

This position will require working on campus 3-5 days/week during the academic year, and occasional evening work. Flexible work options may be considered during the summer.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree
7+ years of related professional work experience is required (e.g., career services, student affairs, political campaigns, event management).

Bachelor?s degree strongly preferred, particularly in a related discipline or concentration (government, public policy, politics, political science, etc.)
Experience working with undergraduate student populations

Experience or interest in politics, career services or higher education experience is beneficial
Candidate should have social media experience and knowledge
Ability to work in a team
Strong customer service orientation and diplomacy
Strong organizational and time management skills
The ability to work well in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
Ability to interact professionally and comfortably with faculty, colleagues, students, guests, external vendors, and partners
Good judgment, attention to detail, excellent writing skills and comfort in a fast-paced environment
Prior experience working with database applications

This is a hybrid position based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. The position is required to work in-person on campus a minimum of three days per week during the academic year. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

Salary Range: $87,700 - $150,900
Note: Starting salaries typically fall in the lower half of the salary range; however, they are ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
