Description
The Director is responsible for working with Advancement colleagues to develop, implement, and measure strategies to maintain and increase alumni/ae engagement across the Hobart and William Smith community. This includes collaborating to set and achieve annual goals from four modes of engagement based on the CASE Alumni Engagement Metrics (AEM) model: philanthropic, volunteer, experiential, and communication. They will focus on the development of programs designed to scale volunteerism and provide meaningful involvement for alumni/ae. In addition, they are responsible for working with key alumni/ae volunteer groups, including the Alumni and Alumnae Association leadership.

The Director must be guided by principles of hard work, integrity, accountability for defined goals and objectives and a commitment to excellence. They will be held accountable for continuous improvement and industry best-practices, while respecting the Colleges' heritage, values, and mission of preparing students to lead lives of consequence.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, they will develop, execute, and measure a regular schedule of initiatives (events, activities, volunteerism, digital engagement, etc.) for alumni/ae on campus and around the country.
  • Manage the Capital Campaign's public engagement metric to track activities and analyze data to measure success and inform future strategies as well as follow standards set forth within the CASE Alumni Engagement Metric framework.
  • Deploy the A-B-C-D model for alumni engagement and prioritize donor segments for engagement touchpoints.
  • Under the direction of the Executive Director, serves as volunteer manager of the Alumni and the Alumnae Associations. Responsible for the management of all committees of the Associations - including the Executive Committees, Distinguished Faculty Award Committee, Honors Committees, Heritage Committees, etc. This includes supporting the volunteer recruitment and management of the committees, facilitating communication within the committees and management and execution of the specific programs, events, and work of the committees.
  • Provide support for volunteer and affinity groups such as LGBTQIA+ Network, Afro Latino Alumni Association, Class Correspondents, regional volunteers, young alumni, Greek alumni, etc.
  • Recruit and manage Class Correspondents for the Pulteney St. Survey; assist Executive Director with editing of Classnotes.
  • Serves as primary coordinator of initiatives related to alumni and alumnae volunteers (including training, conferences, meetings, etc.).
  • Build a comprehensive strategy to elevate alumni voices and accomplishments by creating programs that help current students hear from successful alumni regularly and visually absorb the word 'alumni' more often, both digitally and in-person.
  • Assure the alumni and alumnae webpages of the Advancement site are updated and current, as well as class pages and regional pages of Facebook and other social media platforms.
  • Ensure social media presence to promote alumni and alumnae achievement.
  • Travel on behalf of the Colleges.


Other Information:

This administrative position is full time (12 months/37.5 hours per week) and benefits eligible. Normal hours of work are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the academic year with a possible shortened workweek during the scheduled summer hours. Evening and weekend work is required. Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

This position description is not all-inclusive; other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned.

Annual salary is $75,000.


Qualifications
5-7 years of experience working in public relations or a related field of higher education development, alumni/ae relations, or communications. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required. Must be proactive, flexible, highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic, creative and able to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks at once. Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrated experience working in volunteer management. Solid aptitude for working with databases, Word, Excel and other e-resources is essential. Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience. Knowledge of Hobart of William Smith Colleges and their operations is preferred.
