Do Great Things! Durham Technical Community College is hiring a part time Dispatcher in the Communications Department.
  1. Receives and transmits emergency and non-emergency calls.
  2. Operate a two-way radio to receive and transmit messages
  3. Issue parking permits and college identification cards.
  4. Monitor and assist in coordinating departmental activities and schedules.  
  5. Operate, maintain, and validate data in local, state, national, and international computerized criminal justice data bases (NC DCI, NCIC, NCAWARE).
  6. Solicit informational responses, coordinate and communicate responses and monitor on-going activities to upgrade information received by police or security units as well as to enhance officer safety.  
  7. Organize, catalog, maintain, and tabulate Departmental files and records.  
  8. Perform collateral duties and special assignments at the direction or request of department supervisor(s).  
  9. Operate and provide first line maintenance and perform preliminary diagnostics on all telecommunications and office equipment located in the dispatch area.  
  10. Provide on-the-job training for new dispatchers / communications officers and other departmental personnel designated for training.   
  11. Exercise discretion in a manner consistent with Departmental Policy and Procedures.  
  12. Responsible to and accountable for compliance with Departmental and College Rules & Regulations, orders, and directives.
  13. Carry out simple instructions; interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form;  
  14. Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, or regulations to specific situations;  
  15. Prepare routine correspondence; prepare accurate documentation; maintain records according to established procedures; compile and prepare reports;  
  16. Perform duties in a professional manner; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively;   
  17. Handle sensitive or technical inquiries from and contacts with officials and general public; develop and maintain effective working relationships

Minimum Qualifications: 
At least a High School diploma or equivalent.
Must be at least 20 years of age. 
Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license. 
Hold current Division of Criminal Information (DCI) certification or be able to obtain certification within three months of employment. 
Work Experience: 
previous dispatch experience preferred
