Job Description

The Montgomery College, Adult ESOL & Literacy-GED TESOL Training Institute, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

Montgomery College is seeking an adjunct instructor for its WDCE TESOL Training Institute, an integrated series of noncredit TESOL course for those interested in training to become ESOL teachers for adult students. The instructor will be responsible for teaching a 40-hour course in Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create a curriculum for trainee teachers which focuses on teaching second language acquisition learning theory.
• Teach, evaluate and grade teacher trainees.
• Abide by all college policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Masters TESOL, Linguistics or M. Ed Adult Education or related fields.
• Two years' experience teaching adult ESOL.
• Experience working with a mixed adult student population.
• Proven experience in delivery of high-quality instruction.
• Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
• Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coursework in ESOL Methodology, Teaching Reading and/or Second Language Acquisition.
• Completion of a TESOL certificate program.
• Teaching experience in Adult ESOL.
• Experience as a teacher trainer.

For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.
