![]() Full Time Instructor, Social Work Posting Number: 36-2024 Department: Health & Human Services - Dept Employee Group: Full-time Faculty Status: Full-time Starting Salary Range: Low 50's to Mid 60's Compensation Details: Starting salary is dependent on education, directly related experience and internal equity. After completing the second probationary semester, the potential exists to earn additional compensation by teaching overload and spring/summer sessions. This additional compensation varies based on several factors, including educational level and step. For example, a faculty member with a Master' s degree at Step 0 who teaches 10 hours of overload during the fall and winter semesters would earn an additional $18,000. Teaching during the spring/summer sessions would also generate additional compensation beyond the base salary. Excellent benefits package. Click here to view our benefits summary. Purpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty will facilitate student learning, while initiating and participating in efforts to consistently improve the level of student success. As learning facilitators, faculty consistently assess learning outcomes and their own teaching effectiveness (pedagogy). As professionals, faculty adhere to the ethical standards of their profession as outlined, for example, by the NEA and the State of Michigan. Where applicable, faculty maintain licensure and certifications. In addition, full-time faculty have the following key responsibilities which are described more fully below in the Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities section:
Specific Teaching Assignment:The full time faculty member will be responsible for teaching classes in Social Work. Current courses include: Intro to Social Work, Programs- Community Welfare, Child Welfare, Intro to Substance Abuse, Substance Abuse Services & Policies, Intro to Community Development, and Social Work with the Aged, Internship oversight and others. The Full Time faculty member may also be asked to take on program Coordination duties which include tasks such as scheduling of courses, textbook selection across the program, and program promotion. Supervisory Responsibility: While this position does not have supervisory responsibilities, the full time social work faculty member may be requested to perform duties to assist the dean related to program coordination, classroom observations of other faculty members, and mentoring new faculty members. Work Schedule Although full-time faculty are obligated to teach during fall and winter, the nature of their full-time job requires them to perform many of their professional responsibilities year-round. Faculty are required to be responsive to student and program needs and will make additional provisions for student consultations as may be necessary and reasonable. Presence on campus in addition to an online presence is most beneficial to meet such needs. Additional Information Degree must be conferred by offer date.
