Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Systems Director of Medical Physics, the Assistant Chief Physicist - Virtua is a board-certified Medical Physicist who participates in meeting the overall clinical physics needs of the Division of Medical Physics within the Department of Radiation Oncology at Virtua. Specifically, the Assistant Chief of Clinical Physics Virtua directs all medical physics and dosimetry efforts for Virtua Radiation Oncology facilities (including participation in HUP's Quality Assurance Program and Quality and Safety Management Services). Must possess high level knowledge of and experience in all conventional clinical physics procedures, including but not limited to, operation and calibration of treatment devices, operation and calibration of dosimetry equipment, operation and calibration of treatment planning systems, quality assurance procedures, 'specialized procedures' (SRS, SBRT, TBI, TSE, HDR) and familiarity with radioactive material handling, safety procedures and regulations.

Job Responsibilities

With the Systems Director of Medical Physics, supervises clinical physics operations at Virtua, manages HR, if needed, provides training and credentialing, approves PTO for Virtua physics/dosimetry members, performs annual evaluations, keeps schedule of physics and dosimetry staff in her/his assigned facilities. Coordinates physics and dosimetry staffing needs and coverage between their facilities.
Actively participate in the clinical aspects of radiation therapy treatment planning and machine support including weekly chart checks, initial chart checks, planning support, 4DCT etc.
Will participate in routine physics QA program such as Conventional and CT-simulator QA, Brachytherapy QA procedures. Perform linear accelerator calibration and monthly / Annual mechanical and dosimetry QA.
Participate in the quality assurance for Proton/photon units, ancillary equipment and procedures used in Radiation Therapy, Commissioning of new equipment, i.e., linear accelerators, proton or photon techniques and simulators. Help in developing quality assurance policies, institute procedures, and entering institution's Condition Reporting System (CRS) for safety and quality issues. Participate in other QA activities, such as morning huddle etc.
Will provide network medical physics coverage
Will assume lead duties for procedures or clinical activities : Photon or proton machine support and process improvement projects, writing policies and procedures for new therapy techniques and QA processes
Will participate in special treatment procedures such as, Stereotactic procedures (SRS, SRT and SBRT), HDR/LDR treatment planning, pre-treatment QA and treatment delivery supervision, Prostate seed/strand implants, IMRT treatment techniques implementation and IMRT QA, Proton Therapy QA, PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT), Total Skin Electron and Total Body Irradiation (TBI) etc.
Promotes quality clinical physics within her/his assigned facilities and handles the associated CRS entries. Promotes Safety Culture in communication with the Systems Director of Medical Physics. Maintains written documentation of procedures, data and various evaluations and investigates, particularly where differences exist from the standard of the Department policies/procedures.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Systems Director of Medical Physics.

Qualifications

Master of Science and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
