Job Description The University of Maryland School of Medicine seeks a physician of unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience as Chief of the Division of Hospitalist and General Internal Medicine. The ideal candidate for the leadership role is an academic physician with expertise in applying new knowledge to the practice of clinical medicine and a track record of scholarship. The Chief will be a nationally respected academic internist with demonstrated clinical, translational, and/or basic research accomplishments. Because the next Chief will be the leader of a large academic and clinical enterprise, a candidate's experience in leading effective programs is critically important. The Chief must exhibit the qualities required to be a successful and compassionate leader in a complex, matrixed environment, including working collaboratively across various organizations and effectively promoting the Division with community providers and leaders, donors, and hospital executives. This position requires a dynamic, passionate, and experienced physician leader with a proven track record across the spectrum of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment and retention, community and philanthropic engagement, and the design and implementation of effective clinical programs within and across complex organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Division Chief will be responsible for full program development and oversight, including the Division's clinical, educational, and research program activities. Improvement of clinical operations, mentoring junior faculty and fellows, support of quality improvement initiatives, integrating hospitalist and general internal medicine services among the hospitals and ambulatory sites, clinical growth, and continued research development are notable priorities. INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES Expected faculty rank for this position will be Associate Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with selected candidate's qualifications and experience. The expected salary range for Associate Professors is 268,131 (min) and $485,962 (max). The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the departmental faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental variable compensation programs. Therefore, the actual compensation paid to the selected candidate may vary from the salary range stated herein. For more information, please contact the hiring department. QualificationsIDEAL EXPERIENCE Clinical Excellence and Eminence Exceptional reputation as a general internal medicine physician and/or hospitalist with outstanding patient outcomes. Leadership, compassionate and humanistic approaches to patient care and trainee development as well as participation in national or international societies are a plus. Healthcare Administrative Leadership Accomplished administrative leadership experience in a complex academic institution. Knowledge of financial complexities, payer models, and associated reimbursement in providing high-quality, cost-effective specialty healthcare. The ideal candidate will have some experience working with diverse populations (race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, etc.) and will ideally have developed or participated in programs to address inequities and injustices to underserved populations. A National / International Reputation for Personal Academic Accomplishments A record of outstanding credentials, academic accomplishments, and the experience and national reputation necessary to sustain the history of excellence within the Division. A history of federally funded basic or translational research or experience with large, multicenter clinical trials or outcomes research is desirable. A record of recruiting, developing, and retaining clinicians and investigators is crucial.
