1. Verifies citations, proofreads texts, and recommends modifications or changes to documents, as needed. 2. Drafts annotations of documents and verifies transcriptions of documents for a particular historical or literary period. 3. Researches, edits, and/or writes documentation for inclusion in a publication; accountable for producing valuable scholarly information. 4. Compares previously prepared transcriptions against copies of the handwritten originals. 5. Sets, monitors, and maintains project-specific budgets. 6. Plans and adheres to project-specific schedules. 7. Drafts work-for-hire contracts. 8. Prepares art for publication. 9. Supervises nonexempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned. Required Skill/ability 1: Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills. Required Skill/ability 2: Meticulous attention to detail. Required Skill/ability 3: Ability to work as a member of a team frequently under deadlines. Preferred Education: Demonstrated ability to read and transcribe 18th century handwriting. PhD in Early American History. Advanced archival research skills. Experience in documentary editing. Work Week: Standard (M-F equal number of hours per day) Posting Position Title: Assistant Editor, Collections University Job Title: Assistant Editor Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Demonstrated ability to read and transcribe 18th century handwriting.
