ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Formed in 1986, CBDCE is a national not-for-profit certifying board that administers the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist® (CDCES®) and the Board Certified-Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM®) credential programs. Approximately 20,800 health professionals are credentialed in the diabetes care and education community. CBDCE’s mission is to promote ongoing quality diabetes care, education, prevention, and support by providing certification & credentialing programs that incorporate and reflect best practices.

The CBDCE Board of Directors comprises a team of certificant holders, and a public member.  The Board members are dedicated volunteer leaders who bring significant expertise and set CBDCE’s strategic priorities. Several committees and work groups support CBDCE’s mission, including Credentials, Examination, Outreach, Awards, and DEIAB. The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and has oversight of 8 employees and a $2M budget. 

This is a hybrid position with the CEO expected to have a regular presence in the Schaumburg, IL office and ability to travel as needed.

GENERAL ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Chief Executive Officer (“CEO") is the chief staff executive responsible for administering all activities of the Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (“CBDCE”) under the supervision of the Board of Directors ("Board") or other bodies that may be specified in the Bylaws. The CEO plays a key role in working with the Board to advance the organization's mission and develop staff and organizational resources in a manner that assures delivery of high-quality services. The CEO is responsible for administering and directing activities and programs approved by the Board.

The CEO will work with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the overall strategic initiatives of CBDCE, and they play a crucial role in shaping and executing CBDCE’s long-term strategic vision focus on driving and optimizing the expansion of the organization. 

The CEO is responsible for identifying growth opportunities, forming strategic partnerships, and overseeing marketing efforts. The CEO plays a key role in achieving sustainable growth.

The CEO, with support from the Chief Operating Officer (COO), hires, develops, trains, and mentors staff. 

The CEO is responsible for the effective management of finances and the evaluation of programs, staff, and resources on a regular basis to assure attainment of plans and objectives of the Board and service to certificants. Through effective management and leadership, the CEO achieves measurable economic and constructive growth of the CBDCE.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Recruits, interviews, hires, and mentors staff as identified under Direct and Shared Reports.
• Provides constructive and timely performance evaluation of staff identified under Direct and Shared Reports.
• Handles discipline and termination of employees under Direct and Shared Reports in accordance with organization policy.

Duties | Responsibilities

• Works with the Board using vision and strategic thinking to anticipate changing conditions which may suggest a need for changes in CBDCE.
• Supports the Board and staff in creating, implementing, monitoring and adjusting strategic and tactical plans.
• Engages and works in collaboration with the Board on matters of governance, mission, vision, and strategy.
• Focuses on driving and optimizing revenue and marketing expansion
  • Develops and implements growth strategies
  • Identifies new business opportunities
  • Evaluates and optimizes the revenue streams of the organization. This involves analyzing existing income channels, exploring avenues for improvement, and introducing innovative approaches to maximize profitability, ensure fiscal growth amid evolving market dynamics.
• Creates and manages partnerships
  • By identifying and cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, collaborators, and industry leaders, the CEO forges partnerships that enhance the organization’s market position and facilitates mutual growth.
• Responsible for safeguarding the interests of the organization and ensuring a resilient business framework.
• Provides leadership and guidance to staff, including addressing professional development needs.
• Develops and maintains alliances important to the organization.
• In collaboration with the COO:
  • Develops and recommends, with the Finance Committee, the annual budget, and upon approval by the Board, operates within the budget.
  • Ensures that all funds, physical assets, and other property of the CBDCE are appropriately administered and safeguarded.
  • Executes Bylaw provisions with respect to an annual audit.
• Oversees execution of contracts and commitments authorized by the Board or per established policies.
• Serves as corporate secretary.
