Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant

Southwest Minnesota State University is seeking qualified applicants for an Athletic Communications Graduate Assistant for the 2025-26 academic year. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, writing releases and game notes, social media/video production, producing and designing digital game programs, updating the official athletics department website, establishing and maintaining relationships with local and regional media outlets, maintaining historical records for all sports, statistics at home events, as well as other duties as assigned by the director. The candidate will also have responsibilities of maintaining the department’s various social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube, etc.) Position will be the primary contact for several sports along with responsibilities with other sports. Also, will assist in game management duties for all 18 sports as assigned by Director of Athletics and Athletic Communications Director. Also, will assist in athletics department special events including the Athletics Hall of Honor, Athletics Awards Banquet and Mustang Club events. Bachelor’s degree required with a major in journalism, communications, public relations or related field preferred. Experience with NCAA Live Stats, Stat Crew programs, Macintosh applications, InDesign and website content management are a plus. Qualifications include acceptance into graduate school, enrolling in a minimum of six credits per semester, and candidate must meet the Minnesota State vehicle driving qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in college athletics The stipend is $8,000 plus 18 credit hours of tuition waiver per year.
