Assistant Dean - School of Education POSITION DETAILS The Hunter College School of Education (SOE ) , founded in 1870 as New York City?s first teacher-preparation school, is both rooted in history and focused on the future. Committed to developing reflective, knowledgeable, and highly effective educators, administrators, and counselors, the SOE is one of the largest professional schools within the City University of New York (CUNY). With over 75 full-time faculty members across three departments and more than 100 programs, the SOE serves approximately 3,000 students pursuing education and certification in teaching, counseling, and school administration. The school is also home to CUNY?s first Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership. The Assistant Dean for Budget, Administration and External Affairs is a member of the senior leadership team of the School of Education and has responsibility for overseeing administrative and operational aspects of the School of Education, as well as the development and stewardship of partnerships with external stakeholders to strengthen pathways to program completion, career preparation and educator certification. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Education, the Assistant Dean will provide leadership and administrative oversight for a portfolio that includes budget administration and academic affairs with a focus on identifying efficiencies and strategies for maximizing resources. The Assistant Dean will work with department faculty and staff to align goals and objectives with resources and procedures to access them. The Assistant Dean will support Department Chairs in planning and administering budgets that support academic innovation and excellence. The Assistant Dean will have responsibility for strategic planning and ensuring streamlined and effective administrative and fiscal operations. They will collaborate with the College?s offices of Budget and Finance, Human Resources, Institutional Advancement, Communication and External Affairs, and the Hunter College Research Foundation to ensure alignment with the overall goals and operations of Hunter College. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will strengthen and develop new pathways to teacher education, specifically in relation to overseeing alternative certification programs for teacher preparation, building a robust micro-credential program for the school and enhancing undergraduate pathways to education degrees. In close collaboration with the Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chairs, and Program Directors the Assistant Dean will assure that academic programs have the resources necessary to operate effectively, and that processes for accessing resources are appropriate and clear. The Assistant Dean will also directly supervise a team of staff dedicated to implementing teacher education programs with schools, districts, community organizations, CUNY Community Colleges and funders. QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY?s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor?s degree and eight years? related experience.
