Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Advancement, the Director of Stewardship & Legacy Giving is responsible for developing and executing strategies to engage, steward, and retain donors at all levels while managing a portfolio of major and planned giving donors. This role ensures that donors are meaningfully engaged, recognized, and informed about the impact of their philanthropy. The Director also oversees stewardship of endowed funds and donor-restricted gifts, identifying, cultivating, and securing planned and major gifts. The Director of Stewardship & Legacy Giving partners with colleagues in Advancement and across the school to strengthen donor relationships and enhance long-term philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of the fundraising team, the Director of Stewardship and Legacy Giving will:

Stewardship Responsibilities:

  • Manage ongoing stewardship of donors connected to named endowment funds and donor-directed gifts, including impact and financial reports, letters and communication from scholars, and invitations to school events highlighting donor-supported programs.
  • Oversee stewardship and spending of donor-restricted gifts, ensuring funds are used in alignment with donor intent. 
  • Develop and implement new stewardship strategies for annual giving, endowment, planned giving, and campaign donors, including the Daisy Society and the Ex Solo Ad Solem Society. 

Planned Giving Responsibilities:

  • Manage planned giving prospects within a dedicated PG suspect pool and an assigned portfolio of donors.
  • Promote the Ex Solo Ad Solem Society, creating an effective marketing and engagement plan.
  • Drive planned giving growth, with annual goals and through targeted campaigns.
  • Educate donors and gift officers about planned giving vehicles (e.g., bequests, charitable trusts, and blended gifts) and integrate them into major gift strategies.
  • Work with the business office to ensure timely payment of CGA accounts.

Gift Officer Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of 100–125 donors with the capacity to make major and/or planned gifts, implementing tailored strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors to support the school’s fundraising priorities, including campaign goals and support for the Fund for Bryn Mawr. 
  • Develop proposals that align with donor interests and institutional priorities.
  • Conduct at least 50 face-to-face donor visits per year.
  • Participate in regular prospect management meetings, collaborating with the Senior Director of Development, Head of School, Board of Trustees, and advancement colleagues to refine major gift strategies.
  • Effectively engage and support volunteers in fundraising efforts, providing guidance to ensure successful donor interactions.
  • Represent Bryn Mawr at key events, engaging with donors and staying informed on school initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Development.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or another donor fundraising database.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Ability to travel and attend events on evenings and weekends, as necessary.
  • Must have a high level of attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with and endorsement of the School’s mission, culture, and values; interest in participating in the life of the school
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.
  • Self-motivation, flexibility, problem-solving, and commitment to innovation
  • Cooperation, collegiality, and commitment to teamwork, including maintaining a good working relationship with the Business and Advancement Offices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent quantity, quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work produced.
  • Ability to prioritize work and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to deadlines and maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

 Additional Information

Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical but may be required on some occasions.  Significant computer use for extended periods of time is required.
