Job Summary
The Senior Accountant Payroll is responsible for Payroll accounting activities including, but not limited to, loading cleared check files, payroll liability and expense account analysis and labor reporting. The Senior Accountant Payroll will assist with accounting for the organization's labor activities and may prepare Journal Entries for labor re-classes as permitted by the Controller's Office. The position will also be responsible for audit preparation, preparing reports for management, and other payroll related tasks as required.
Position reports directly to the Director of Payroll but will work closely with Payroll, Time & Labor, and Accounting leadership as the business needs demand. Supports System-wide projects (i.e., system upgrades, conversions, new implementations, etc.) while working with various cross functional teams such as Information Systems, Human Resources, Nursing, and other stakeholders, as well as customer based teams.
Assist leadership in managing Payroll related accounting data. Performs continuous monitoring, prepares KPI's, and may generate control reports for functional areas to inform leadership on areas requiring maintenance. He/she is expected to make recommendations to leadership and IT on opportunities to improve. Adheres to organizational and departmental record retention procedures at all times and follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Ensures appropriate signature of authority exists on requests for action.
Ensures procedures and reporting processes within the Payroll span of control are documented, and ensures mandatory reporting requirements are met to ensure solid Financial Reporting and mitigate risk of any fines, penalties or unwelcome material audit adjustments. The successful candidate must possess knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, be mathematically inclined, and have the ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Degrees: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field
Licensure and Certifications:
a. American Payroll Association - Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), preferred
b. American Payroll Association - Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), preferred
c. Other accounting related certifications, preferred
Work Experience: Five (5) Years of work experience; Able to demonstrate progressive growth. Compile and analyze transactional data to detect or correct errors. Ability to perform calculations and data entry. Solid experience reconciling Payroll labor transactions required. Demonstrate ability to prepare formalized org-facing documentation. One (1) Year experience System wide Labor Reporting experience preferred. Kronos Dimensions and SharePoint experience preferred.
