Job Description Summary
The Penn Medicine Center for Genetics of Complex Disease seeks to elucidate the genetics of diseases that disproportionately affect understudied populations. The Center is led by Director Joan O'Brien, MD, Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania and is funded in part by the Primary Open-Angle African American Glaucoma Genetics (POAAGG) Study. This multi-year study, funded by two R01 grants from the National Eye Institute totaling $17.8M, seeks to understand the genetic architecture of glaucoma. This disease is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world today and over affects African ancestry individuals. Our team has enrolled more than 10,250 African ancestry individuals from Philadelphia since 2010. We are now analyzing genetic data and beginning to re-contact families to screen for risk variants and high polygenic risk scores.

We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented Clinical Research Coordinator for the POAAGG study. The Clinical Research Coordinator will lead all patient-facing and organizational aspects of the study, serving as primary point of contact for previously enrolled subjects and newly recruited subjects. Job duties will include re-contacting subjects and families, future enrollment activities, outreach events, and more. This individual will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all IRB, sponsor, and institutional regulations and guidelines. There will be opportunities for collaboration on research projects and publications with glaucoma specialists, biostatisticians, and translational scientists, as well as experience with grant and manuscript writing. This position will function as part of a multidisciplinary team and will report to the Research Project Manager C. Position is contignent upon funding.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Re-contact select patients and families with genetic variants of interest or high/low polygenic risk scores for blood draws and onsite glaucoma screenings. Includes arranging transportation, scheduling with glaucoma specialists, and performing onsite screenings .
During enrollment and/or screenings, evaluate subjects for exclusion/inclusion criteria, conduct patient interviews, obtain patient consent, collect blood samples for DNA analyses, and enter information into a de-identified research database.
Collaborate with Program Coordinator and other team members to organize Community Advisory Board meetings, conduct messaging campaigns to reach at-risk patients, assist with all community outreach events, and update Center website with materials and articles for patients.
Submit documents to regulatory authorities (e.g. IRB, FDA, etc.) and/or review/monitoring boards (i.e, DSMB, independent safety officer).
Drive a research project (collect, analyze and interpret data, and present data at group meetings).
Ensure that all research is conducted safely and according to protocol. Includes maintenance of study source documents and essential regulatory documents; reporting of adverse events; understanding of good clinical practice (GCP); and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and sponsor policies .
Work with Database Manager to organize, collect, and retrieve phenotypic information from the POAAGG database and medical charts as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidates must demonstrate effective communication skills; be highly organized; and possess strong ambition, interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
