JOB SUMMARY:
The Health Unit Coordinator II (HUC II) is accountable for the daily (shift) clerical operation and coordination of the activities on a nursing unit(s). The HUC II works closely with the charge nurse to facilitate and support unit operations to assure patient needs are met. The HUC II monitors and assures compliance with select environmental and process safety and regulator standards and maintains unit supplies and equipment. The HUC II functions as the hub for coordinating unit activity and communication. The HUC II is proficient in medical terminology, communication skills, organizational skills, technical skills, clerical functions and computer skills. The Health Unit Coordinator demonstrates and role models personal and professional effectiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
a. Education and Experience:
Associate Degree plus one (1) year related experience preferred,
OR Licensed Vocational Nurse with one (1) year related experience preferred.
OR seven (7) years commensurate experience required.
Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
b. Licensure/Certification: Health Unit Coordination Certification required
Equipment Operated:
a. Proficient in use of desk top computers and basic office soft ware.
b. Various office equipment, including fax machines, printers, scanners, and telecommunication systems

a. Medical terminology
b. Effective written and verbal communication skills
c. Efficient organizational skills
