Teaching Responsibilities:

At The Benjamin School, we believe that good teachers set high standards for their students and then do everything they can to help all students achieve those standards. We are looking for teachers who will support our students in becoming self-directed, independent learners with superior academic collegiate skills.

The ideal candidate will be able to incorporate a range of teaching and assessment strategies tailored to meet the needs of students. This person must have a desire to work with students in a challenging, college-preparatory environment and should possess strong interpersonal and written communication skills.

Qualified candidates should demonstrate a passion for science, intellectual curiosity, strong communication skills, the ability to work within a team, skills to engage and inspire students in the pursuit of learning, a commitment to ongoing professional development, and the ability to refine and revise curriculum on an ongoing basis.

The person filling this position will teach multiple sections of Grade 9 introductory biology. Candidates who can also teach environmental sciences, other secondary-level core and elective courses, and health and wellness will receive additional consideration.

General Professional Qualifications:

The most desirable candidates will have the following background or comparable experience:

A bachelor’s degree in life sciences; an advanced degree is preferred.
At least three years of teaching experience in a rigorous, college-preparatory program at the Upper School level; a strong educational background in biology is preferred
An ability and desire to teach and learn with peers in departmental and interdepartmental settings;
Experience integrating technology into the curriculum;
Willingness to create a student-centered classroom;
Desire to work as part of a team;
Collegiality and a willingness to collaborate with colleagues on advancing the school’s strategic initiatives are essential; and
Interest and experience in interacting with students outside the classroom in co-curricular activities: sports, arts, social service, etc.
