Germantown Friends School is seeking a highly organized and solutions-driven Associate Director of IT to join our technology team. This individual will take a leadership role in managing educational technology tools, overseeing audio-visual (AV) systems, and contributing to key technology initiatives across the campus. The Associate Director will be crucial in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of IT services and providing timely and professional support to students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate will be skilled at addressing a wide range of technical challenges, enhancing the integration of technology into teaching and learning, and maintaining our established high standards of service. A strong understanding of instructional technology, classroom and theater AV setups, and general IT systems is essential for success in this role. This position also offers the opportunity to teach a technology elective in the Upper School, depending on the candidate’s interest and qualifications. Preferred Qualifications - Experience & Leadership: 3-5 years of experience in IT support or educational technology roles, preferably in a school setting. Proven ability to lead IT operations, support teams, and manage AV systems across campus.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of macOS, Windows, iOS, and ChromeOS environments. Proficiency with Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft 365, and other commonly used educational tools. Experience with AV systems, including projection, live streaming, soundboards, and classroom setups.
- Instructional Technology: Experience supporting or coaching faculty on integrating technology into the classroom, with a background in instructional technology.
- Operational Skills: Proficient in user account administration, software rollouts, help desk systems, and managing the all-school device program. Experience tracking expenses and managing contracts/vendors.
- Communication & Collaboration: Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. A collaborative mindset and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
Educational and Professional Requirements - Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Information Technology, Educational Technology, Computer Science, or a similar discipline).
- Demonstrated success in educational technology integration and support within a school or similar environment.
- Experience supervising teams and managing IT staff or support personnel.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a school setting, with a deep understanding of the unique needs and dynamics of educational environments.
Responsibilities Include - Educational Technology: Support and advance the use of educational technology tools in classrooms. Serve as a point of contact for faculty and staff needing assistance with classroom technology, training, and setup.
- AV Systems: Lead the AV team to systematize AV setups across campus, ensuring reliable support for in-person, hybrid, and online events.
- IT Operations: Partner with the IT Director to oversee the daily operations of the IT department, ensuring timely support for hardware, software, and network needs. Manage help desk ticketing, documentation systems, and monitor response quality.
- Device and Software Management: Support device deployment, inventory management, software installations, system integrations, and user account management.
- Device Program: Collaborate with the Help Desk and Hardware Manager to manage the all-school device program, including tracking expenses, budgeting, and procurement.
- Cybersecurity: Work with the Network Administrator to support cybersecurity initiatives and ensure the security of the school’s digital assets.
- AI Tools for Education: Stay current with emerging AI tools for education and assist in evaluating and integrating these tools into the classroom.
- Collaboration & Special Projects: Work closely with academic and administrative departments on technology initiatives and special projects.
- Event Support: Collaborate with the AV team to ensure all AV setups for events are staffed, prepared, and executed successfully.
- Other Projects: Complete additional projects as assigned by the IT Director.
Additional Job Requirements - Must be available for occasional evening and weekend school events.
- Comfortable standing for extended periods, using ladders, and lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work at a desk and on screens for extended periods.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and basic power tools for hardware setup and repair.
- Successful completion of all required state and federal background checks is a condition of employment.
