LAVC, one of the nine colleges in LACCD, is located in the San Fernando Valley. With an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students, LAVC offers a wide range of academic and career technical education programs and transfers students to leading public and private colleges and universities. The LAVC EOPS Department consists of experienced and professionally trained faculty who work with students on educational goals, career planning, transfer to four-year institutions, and other academic and personal issues affecting student success. JOB DESCRIPTION The EOPS Department at LAVC is accepting applications for a Long Term Substitute Full Time D Basis Counselor position to begin during the Summer 2025 semester. This assignment will be for 35 hours per week. The major responsibility of the candidate is to provide comprehensive, academic and career counseling services to a diverse and multicultural student population. All counseling faculty are expected to participate in weekly department meetings and professional development activities, as well as participate in college-wide activities and shared governance committees. The Counseling assignment may include day and evening duties. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Department Chairperson and the Dean of Special Programs, duties may include but are not limited to:
Two (2) years or more of paid work experience, post Master's Degree, working as a counselor at a California community college within the past five (5) years.
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment. Remote Learning: Faculty may be required to conduct classes or interact with students in a virtual learning environment using Canvas or other methods of remote learning. Applicants with demonstrated certification in Blackboard, Canvas or Course Compass or other online modalities may be given preference. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID 19 VACCINATION: Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date. SALARY AND BENEFITS: The LACCD determines placement on the pay scale depending on verified education and employment history. Current starting annual salary range is from: $97,716 - $174,432 for the 12-month academic year depending on education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance for employees and eligible dependents, life insurance and (State Teachers Retirement System) retirement program.
