About the position:
Shady Hill School is seeking a Payroll and General Accountant to join our team. The School has an annual budget of approximately $30 million, with over $125 million in assets and an endowment in excess of $70 million. The Payroll and General Accountant is responsible for booking journal entries and reconciling bank statements and other general ledger accounts.  The Payroll and General Accountant also processes the bi-weekly payroll.  The successful candidate will be detail-oriented and accurate in his/her work, independent and self-motivated. This is a full-time, in-person, exempt (salaried) 12 month position reporting to the Controller. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Run the bi-weekly payroll using ADP WorkforceNow
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and subsidiary ledgers on a monthly basis
  • Create and enter all monthly journal entries
  • Reconcile cash accounts and prepare bank statement reconciliations
  • Prepare schedules for the annual audit
  • Assist with endowment accounting
  • Manage investment statements and correspondence
  • Enter Fixed Assets into the Fixed Asset system on a quarterly basis
  • Process miscellaneous cash receipts and manage petty cash.
  • Remit 403b contributions to TIAA-CREF on a bi-weekly basis
  • Scan all payroll and documents into LaserFiche
  • Reconcile gifts with the Advancement Office
  • Process Summer Camp billing
  • Miscellaneous filing
  • Other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration/Management with strong academic record. Some Accounting course work required.
  • 2-3 years previous experience in an Accounting or Finance role required. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under the pressure of deadlines essential.
  • Excel proficiency required, PowerPoint proficiency preferred. 
  • Experience running payroll is preferred, especially using ADP WorkforceNow.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is preferred. 
  • Highest regard for confidentiality and high ethical standards required.
