Summary

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for an Physician Assistant (Cardiothoracic). The Physician Assistant (Cardiothoracic) will function in Surgical Service.

Duties

• The incumbent will perform specific duties within his/her approved scope of practice
• Other duties and responsibilities include - but are not limited to: Accountable for the care of designated patients admitted under the CTS specialty as well as serving as surgical assistant at the Operating Room (OR)
• Serves as a liaison between the surgeon - the house staff - and nursing staff Uses sound clinical judgement in assessing - planning - implementing - documenting - and evaluating care - resulting in a positive outcome/improvement in the CTS patient population
• Prescribes and/or recommends laboratory tests - diagnostic studies - and/or medications based on current medical center - VHA - DEA policy and within scope of practice
• Provides support in the performance of complex CTS procedures at the OR
• Assumes a leadership role in utilizing problem-solving - methodologies to resolve system and/or process problems that impact on patient care - staff performance - and/or system (s) improvements
• Analyzes ethical/care issues - applying appropriate theoretical principles and ensures application of institutional policy
• Effectively manages the service resources to increase efficiency - cost effectiveness and maintains a safe environment
• Properly utilizes information accessible via the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) or other computer systems
• accesses only data for which privileges are authorized
• Initiates and leads others in the application of newly acquired knowledge to the care of veterans at the service or program level
• Maintains knowledge of current techniques trends and professional issues
• Evaluates practice of self and colleagues against standards of practice and relevant regulations (i.e
• professional organizations - colleagues' acts - clinical practice guidelines - TJC - OSHA) and initiates actions to improve compliance
• Demonstrates positive communication skill and behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers
• Shares expertise within and/or external to the organization by leading or actively participating in interdisciplinary groups such as committees - task forces - projects - formal teaching - publishing - or professional activities
• Incorporates current scientific and evidence-based findings into clinical practice - including clinical practice guidelines and/or preventive index measures
