Duties & Responsibilities:

Processes in office and third-party billing operations, including medical coding, charge entry, claims submissions, payment posting, reimbursements, refunds, etc. Processes in office billing functions in the Electronic Medical Records system and the Point of Sale system. Responsible for using revenue management software to identify and resolve coding and claim edits. Enters, reviews, and verifies patient health insurance information submission in the Electronic Medical Records system before the appointment. Processes refunds and posts payments on patient accounts. Post insurance payments to patient accounts.
Communicate with students regarding all student health insurance, billing, and claims inquiries via email, phone, and office visits. Plans and executes patient insurance documentation retrieval and review to ensure accurate billing and efficient account collection. Maintains and updates EMR fee schedule.
Actively troubleshoot patient health insurance, billing, claims, and coding challenges with the EMR system and Student Health Insurance waiver/enrollment software. Communicates with students daily, weekly, and monthly regarding the Student Health Insurance waiver and enrollment deadlines. Retrieves and verifies patient insurance enrollment and documentation from the Health Insurance carrier.
Scans, attaches, and updates patients' charts with billing documents. Reviews EMR billing reports daily, weekly, and monthly with the Assistant Director for accuracy and compliance. Collects and compiles accurate statistical reports utilizing the EMR software.
Reviews and interprets operational data to determine procedural revisions and enhancements; participates in implementing EMR system updates to enhance revenue and operating efficiency in collaboration with the Assistant Director.
Verifies eligibility for coverage via multiple payor websites; resolves claim edits via claim edit workflow in Electronic Medical Records billing system. Processes and updates reports pertaining to patient insurance and billing.
Apply appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to ensure claims are billed correctly. Monitor and process claims for insurance reimbursement, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all federal, state, and payer-specific guidelines. Conduct a detailed analysis on denied claims and submit appeals when necessary. Review, follow up, and resolve outstanding claims with insurance companies to maximize reimbursement. Supports event programming and promotion of the University Health Center. Supports establishing medical billing, claims, and coding in the Electronic Medical Records system.
