Job Description Summary
Students who develop a plan for their separation from the University and have access to the resources they need during their separation are well-positioned for a successful re-entry to Penn. The Community Care Advisor for Student Separation and Re-entry supports traditional undergraduate students who are separated from the University and are preparing to return, with a particular focus on first-generation students and students with financial needs. This population of students arrives at Penn with extreme promise but is at risk of not completing their degree due to separation and barriers to their thriving while away or upon return.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Meet with students before they separate from the University to develop a plan for their separation and assess their needs during the separation.
Provide ongoing follow-up as needed during the separation period for monitoring and to support the student's preparations for a return to Penn.
Support students as it relates to academic obligations, basic needs, and wellness with referrals to community resources as appropriate.
Support students with problem-solving and referrals to resources.
Manage coordination of short- and long-term services during the student's separation, including the following as needed:
Assisting separated students to secure housing and food.
Helping separated students find, receive, and pay for medical care.
Working with students to connect with available government assistance, including Medicaid and SNAP benefits.
As needed, communicate with parents, families, or designated emergency contacts regarding students during the period of separation.
Develop programming appropriate to the re-orientation of all students returning to Penn to campus resources and success strategies.
Collaborate with schools to oversee and connect separated students to academic resources, and to request their return when ready.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts in social work, counseling, education, or related field preferred, and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Master's degree preferred.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
