Spanish Teacher

Position Summary:

Lancaster Country Day School seeks an experienced Upper School Spanish teacher for the 2025-26 School Year.  The successful candidate is dedicated to immersing students in the vibrant world of Spanish language and culture. This involves crafting engaging lesson plans that blend traditional instruction with interactive activities, multimedia, and real-world scenarios to bring the language to life. The successful candidate will have experience guiding students through core language skills – from pronunciation and comprehension to sophisticated writing and conversation – always adapting methods to fit diverse learning styles. Beyond the textbook, the teacher will  foster an appreciation for the rich history, art, and customs of Spanish-speaking countries, organizing extracurricular activities like Spanish clubs or cultural events to deepen student engagement. 

Responsibilities:

• Teach three Spanish classes and one ESL class
• Create engaging lesson plans and instructional materials: Tailoring them to diverse learning styles and levels, and incorporating various teaching methods like interactive activities, multimedia resources, and traditional exercises.
• Integrate cultural studies: Teaching about the history, literature, music, customs, and social conventions of Spanish-speaking countries to provide a well-rounded educational experience.
• Deliver high-quality instruction: Encouraging student participation, fostering a love for language learning, and inspiring confidence in speaking Spanish.
• Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment: Promoting cultural diversity and maintaining classroom discipline.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff: Regarding student progress, potential areas for improvement, and school policies.
• Collaborate with colleagues: To integrate Spanish instruction with other subjects, enhance the learning environment, and develop interdisciplinary projects.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning sessions.
• Perform other related tasks: As assigned by administrators, and comply with all school policies and procedures.
• Desire to be part of building the larger school culture and community, particularly with regard to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging efforts.
• Native or near native fluency in Spanish with excellent written and verbal communication.
