The Chief Nursing Executive (CNE) is a dynamic, visionary leader who serves as a key member of the health system's executive team, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This executive-level position is responsible for setting and executing the overall vision and strategy for nursing across the rural health system, with a focus on clinical excellence, patient and family experience, innovation, and employee engagement. The CNE leads system-wide nursing practice, clinical education, and informatics. This includes championing evidence-based, experience-driven care models and leveraging informatics to improve workflows and patient outcomes. A central priority of the role is the oversight and advancement of the health system’s Magnet Journey, ensuring a culture of excellence, shared governance, and continuous professional development. In collaboration with cross-functional leaders, the CNE ensures nursing aligns with the organization’s mission and strategic goals while addressing the unique needs of rural communities. This includes promoting equitable, compassionate, and high-quality patient-centered care in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

The next CNE will have strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and collaborate with the local and system leadership team, Board Members, Medical Staff and team members to accomplish the strategic goals of the organization. A patient-centric leader with a passion for community, rural healthcare will be an ideal fit for this role. Prior experience with expanding services and programs, and establishing contemporary clinical nursing education programs, with effective relationships with local and regional high schools and colleges, is preferred. The ideal candidate for the CNE position will preferably have a PhD in nursing. This leader will have a current, unrestricted RN license issued by the Board of Nursing. Thorough knowledge of nursing standards, principles, and procedures is essential. Experience with successful development of a professional practice model, demonstrated expertise as a change agent, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are critical to the success of the next CNE. |
