Chief Medical Officer or Chief Clinical Officer

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) holds an executive leadership position within Indiana Health Centers’ (IHC) statewide system. This role is responsible for leading all clinical programs and services, and directing, managing, and supervising all licensed and certified clinical providers/personnel within the IHC system. The CMO/CCO ensures that care delivery at all health center sites meets the highest standards for each clinical discipline and is aligned with IHC’s federally approved scope of practice, mission, and regulatory requirements. The CMO/CCO advises the CEO and the Board of Directors on clinical standards, quality of care, and compliance, and is a key thought leader for the organization.
The CMO is a licensed physician (MD or DO), while the CCO is a licensed and experienced Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant).
The CMO/CCO will embody a deep commitment to the organization's mission of delivering high-quality, compassionate care to underserved communities. This leader will champion a patient-centered, culturally responsive approach across clinical services, ensuring that all care is aligned with the organization’s values and mission of access, dignity, and excellence. As a key member of the executive team, the CMO/CCO will inspire clinical teams to continuously improve outcomes and fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, excellence and service.
The CMO/CCO plays a key leadership role in the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-quality medical and behavioral health providers who align with the IHC’s mission and values. The CMO/CCO actively partners with Human Resources and executive leadership to identify workforce needs, participate in strategic recruitment efforts, and cultivate a positive clinical culture that attracts top talent. The CMO/CCO ensures that provider candidates meet clinical excellence standards and fosters an environment that supports professional development, provider engagement, and long-term retention.
The CMO/CCO collaborates closely with health center operations and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to ensure effective implementation of policies, evaluate performance, and continuously improve outcomes. This leader represents IHC at local, state, and national levels and is a visible, approachable mentor for IHC’s clinical team.
