The Lehman College campus is located in the Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic-serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The Department of Social Work provides education for social work students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Attendance at staff development opportunities, as well as participation in department and school-wide meetings, is expected. The qualified candidate may perform additional service to the College, University, and community.

The Social Work Programs at Lehman College, both the undergraduate and graduate programs, are fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The Department of Social Work is currently housed in the School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing (HS2N). The School of Health Sciences, Human Services and Nursing currently includes six departments: Exercise Science and Recreation; Health Promotion and Nutrition Sciences; Health Equity, Administration & Technology; Social Work; Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and Nursing. The school is also home to the CUNY Institute for Health Equity. Departments in the School actively engage with community and government partners to support evidence-based practices and health equity, with a special emphasis on urban populations. The faculty are also strongly committed to high quality teaching and preparation of ethical and skilled health and human service professionals. The Department invites applications for a full-time Undergraduate Social Work Program Admissions Specialist under the Higher Education Officer Assistant title, reporting directly to the Director of the Undergraduate Program and indirectly to the Chair of the Social Work Department. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the program?s growth and complex needs and ensuring effective advisement, recruitment, and leadership in the undergraduate social work program.

Duties include but are not limited to:

1. Student Advisement: Provide academic advisement for undergraduate social work students, including course registration, guidance on curriculum, and troubleshooting. Facilitate workshops or informational sessions on academic success strategies.
2. Recruitment: Conduct recruitment outreach at educational institutions, social service organizations, and conferences. Help organize and participate in semester events like Graduate Day and the End-of-Semester Celebration. Develop promotional materials and social media content to enhance recruitment efforts.
3. Advisory Board: Revive and manage the departmental advisory board. Schedule regular meetings, prepare agendas, and follow up on action items to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
4. Program Representation: Represent the undergraduate social work program at local, state, and national meetings of professional organizations. Network with professionals and gather insights on best practices and trends in social work education.
5. Application Review: Review applications and interview students as a leader on the admissions committee for the 150 spaces available for the first (junior) year of the program. Provide feedback on the admissions process to enhance future recruitment efforts.
6. Literature Management: Update and manage program literature, brochures, and application materials. Ensure all materials are accurate, accessible, and reflect the program's mission and values.
7. Leadership Role: Participate as part of the undergraduate leadership group to support program initiatives and improvements. Contribute to strategic planning and implementation of new program offerings.
8. Collaboration with Program Director: Work closely with the Undergraduate Program Director to plan recruitment events and engage current students. Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and making recommendations for improvement.
9. Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on trends and best practices in social work education and student advisement.
10. Data Management: Collect and analyze data related to student recruitment, retention, and success to inform program decisions and improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

Bachelor?s Degree or BSW required; MSW preferred from a CSWE-accredited school of social work.

? Experience in leadership, recruitment, student advisement, and program development within an academic or agency-based setting preferred.

? Strong commitment to undergraduate social work education.

? Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with strong oral and written communication abilities.

? Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and various on and off-campus constituencies from diverse backgrounds.

? Strong decision-making skills and ability to exercise independent professional judgment; must be self-directed and capable of managing crisis situations and resolving conflicts.

? Excellent organization and time-management skills; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Supervises activities in an operational unit supporting Admissions and/or Enrollment.

• Oversees staff activities; plans and monitors employee scheduling and coverage and coordinates training
• Serves as liaison to one or more departments providing student support services, such as Financial Aid
• Coordinates selection process activities such as applications review, verification of information, and timely forwarding of data to other CUNY areas
• Coordinates mailings and other communications
• Monitors activity and reports on both transactions and outcomes
• Completes projects to improve services and enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness
• Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$86,645 - $90,375. Salary commensurate with education and experience.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
