Senior Clinical Research Coordinators independently coordinate and are accountable for the overall administration of one or more clinical studies, typically requiring advanced-level knowledge and skills. They may provide leadership to lower-level clinical research coordinators and/or other support personnel. The Senior Research Coordinator will work on studies evaluating factors contributing to cognitive and functional decline in older adults with Major Depressive Disorder and other psychiatric illnesses. Factors to be evaluated include genetic risk factors, blood markers of neurodegenerative diseases, MRI measures of cortical volume loss, and Positron Emission Tomography measures of amyloid and tau deposition. Outcome measures include clinically administered measures of cognition, disability, and psychiatric status as well as measures of cognitive, psychiatric, and functional status obtained remotely and unsupervised through online data collection. The Senior Research Coordinator will work closely with the Principal Investigator to prioritize workflow across a number of studies being conducted, to conduct participant evaluations/interviews, develop study protocols, and to train staff on database entry, conducting standardized interviews, and following study protocols. The Senior Research Coordinator will ensure all recruitment milestones are met for studies and coordinate studies to ensure patient safety. The Senior Research Coordinator will be responsible for establishing vendor contracts for obtaining Positron Emission Tomography (PET) ligands, scheduling delivery of these ligands for participant evaluations with strict time allowances and restrictions, and maintaining excellent records of ligand use to assist in financial management of the study. In addition to PET ligands the Senior Research Coordinator will track financial charges for each study and work with vendors to ensure all charges are correct. The Senior Research Coordinator will work to develop human subject protocols and maintain human subjects approvals for projects. The Senior Research Coordinator will oversee accuracy of data entered into study databases and assist the study investigators in disseminating results of the study through publications or presentations. The Senior Research Coordinator will be responsible for running portions of project meetings and planning to ensure all study activities will be completed successfully according to sponsor expectations. The Senior Research Coordinator will assist the Principal Investigator in supervising Assistant Clinical Research Coordinators workflow and adherence to study and laboratory protocols. The Senior Research Coordinator will assign study tasks to Assistant Clinical Research Coordinators to ensure completion of study tasks within timeframe required, report performance evaluations to assist the Principal Investigator in completing staff reviews, and will monitor Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator activities to ensure participant safety and quality of data collection. The position is responsible for, and critically important to the overall operational management of clinical research activities. It has direct responsibility for implementing a diverse portfolio of research activities for one or more studies which may include multicenter clinical trials (both NIH and industry-sponsored), local investigator-initiated clinical trials, and/or programmatic clinical research activities, such as a clinical database and biorepository. Positions at this level may perform expert and efficient integration of multiple complex programmatic activities, applying a sophisticated medical knowledge base, substantial leadership skills, effectively working with a variety of people and organizations at UCSF (clinicians, investigators, clinical staff, administration, Committee on Human Research, human resources, contracts and grants) and elsewhere (industry sponsors, coordinating centers, FDA, NIH), exhibiting an in-depth knowledge of specific programs. Reporting to a Principal Investigator (PI) or Director, the incumbent may have central responsibility for ensuring CHR approval and compliance, contract generation, negotiation and approval, subject recruitment, appropriate study testing, and adequate enrollment of multicenter clinical trials, longitudinal cohort studies, local investigator-initiated studies, and biorepository efforts; exercise strong administration and management leadership of clinical research, strong research coordination, and may lead experienced personnel to ensure optimal systems for efficiency, compliance, safety, financial oversight, and contractual expertise in negotiations and execution, as well as create and implement quality improvement processes. This is a position of leadership whose main purpose is to ensure that clinical research commitments are met and that the programs maintain a reputation for excellence in all activities. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $41.72 - $67.10 (Hourly Rate).
