Job Description:Minnesota State Moorhead invites applications for a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as Director of Analytics and Institutional Research. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Strategic Initiatives, the Director will lead the university?s efforts to transform data into actionable insights that inform institutional strategy, improve student outcomes, and drive continuous improvement. This role leads a team of two analysts and collaborates extensively with partners across the institution, including IT, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Marketing, and Administration, to build a culture of evidence and data-informed decision-making. The Director will support strategic priorities and day-to-day operations with timely, relevant, and accessible data, but will also be expected to conduct statistical analyses, drive the development of new metrics, and mentor staff as they develop analytically.Minimum Qualifications:Minimum of five years of relevant experience in institutional research or data analytics within higher education ? including at least three years of working with data warehouses, data marts, data validation, and self-service data tools. Plus, experience working in higher education, data science, statistics, public policy, analytics, social science, or a related field.Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising professional staff and managing projects.Strong technical skills in data analysis, visualization, and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SPSS, R, or SQL).Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to non-technical audiences.Preferred Qualification:Master?s degree in a relevant field (e.g., higher education, data science, statistics, public policy, analytics, social science).Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, PeopleSoft)Experience in a public university or within the Minnesota State system.Understanding of student success, enrollment management, and financial aid metrics.Experience supporting regional accreditation efforts (e.g., Higher Learning Commission).Knowledge of data governance, data ethics, and FERPA compliance.Demonstrated success working in cross-functional teams to support institutional priorities.Responsibilities:Strategic Data Leadership Cross-Campus CollaborationLead the university?s data and analytics strategy in alignment with institutional priorities and broader System Office strategies. Work closely with stakeholders across IT, Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to ensure data systems, reporting, and insights support planning, operations, and student success. Serve as a trusted campus partner, advancing a shared understanding of institutional goals and the data needed to achieve them.Priority: Essential Percentage of Time: 30%Advance Institutional ImpactDetermine study methodology, design and leverage metric development, and create analytic output with the intent to measure and enhance the university?s institutional effectiveness, with a focus on driving meaningful outcomes. Provide insight and evidence to support strategic priorities such as student success, academic quality, financial sustainability, and mission fulfillment. Connect data to impact by helping campus leaders understand where the university is excelling, where it can improve, and how best to allocate resources for the greatest return on investment. Build institutional capacity for data-informed decision-making by developing tools, resources, and training that empower users across campus to engage with data and self-service technology confidently and ethically.Priority: Essential Percentage of Time: 20%Data Visualization and CommunicationDesign, develop, and maintain dashboards, scorecards, and visual reporting tools that translate complex data into accessible and actionable insights. Present trends and findings to institutional leaders and campus stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner. Develop and oversee the training and maintenance of Self-service technology as the primary dissemination tool to the broader campus audience.Priority: Essential Percentage of Time: 20%Team LeadershipLead, supervise, and direct personnel, including but not limited to hiring, contracting, promoting, rewarding, assigning work, disciplining to ensure staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced. Supervise and develop a team of two analysts. Foster a collaborative and service-oriented environment, aligned with Moorhead?s mission and values. Set priorities, guide professional growth, and ensure high-quality, timely deliverables.Priority: Essential Percentage of Time: 15%Data Compliance and ReportingOversee timely and accurate submission of required reports to federal, state, system, and accrediting agencies (e.g., IPEDS, HLC, Minnesota State). Maintain awareness of changing reporting requirements and ensure adherence to data integrity, data governance, and privacy standards.Priority: Essential Percentage of Time: 10%Other duties as assignedPerform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.Priority: Secondary Percentage of Time: 5%Other Requirements:The position must assure that the Department of Analytics and Institutional Research correctly identifies valid sources of data, verify accuracy of data produced, and assure that data is reported in a format that allows for correct decision making at the executive level. A misrepresentation of data could cause incorrect decisions to be made by senior leadership. The position is responsible for data security.The successful candidate must be able to lawfully accept employment in the United States by the day employment begins.
