Job Description FOR USE BY IT AND HSIS ONLY: The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER-ENT to perform maintenance on existing software products for third party customers. To assist in coding, testing, and debugging new software or making enhancements to existing software for their party customers. To write programs according to specifications from higher level staff or business analysts. To make suggestions of problem solutions or software enhancements. To assist in development of user manuals. To works with technical staff to learn and understand problems with software. This position will commit to fostering an environment of heightened security following Information Technology Security Policies and participating in security training, such as Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), on an annual basis. RESPONSIBILITIES: a) Work directly with business teams to learn their business needs and help translate those needs into software requirements and design plans. b) Develop custom applications, interfaces and reports to support UAB's Oracle E-Business Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. c) Document existing processes and create detailed test plans that can be followed to test custom applications to ensure they are not negatively impacted by system upgrades and patches. (Annual Salary: $47,665 - $77,455) Associate's degree in Information Systems or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement. Preferred Skills: a) Solid analytical communication skills b) Team player c) Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects and assignments at once, while keeping key stakeholders apprised of progress and ensuring tasks are completed on time. d) Experience with writing SQL in relational databases, especially Oracle, including query optimization, indexes, transactional SQL, inner and outer joins. e) Knowledge of API design standards and best-practices, especially RESTful web services using JSON f) Ability to work and communicate directly with non-technical functional users to determine their needs, help them diagnose problems and test solutions. g) Able to write reusable, readable, well-documented and efficient code. h) Solid software development background (ideally Oracle PL/SQL) including design patterns, frameworks, data structures, performance optimizations. i) Familiarity with Agile/Scrum software development and deployment.
