Assistant Director, International & Off-Campus Programs

Ohio Wesleyan University, a selective, private, undergraduate liberal arts, residential institution founded in 1842 and located just 20 miles north of Columbus, is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Director, International & Off-Campus Programs (IOCP). This is a full-time, salaried position with benefits. About you: The Assistant Director, IOCP, plays a vital role in supporting global education at Ohio Wesleyan. Providing support primarily to our education abroad students, the person in this position will take the lead for advising and supporting students who are studying abroad and engaging in short-term international programs. Additionally, this person will play a key role in supporting faculty and staff who are leading international and domestic off-campus programs, will assist the Director with international institutional and partner relations, and will generally support intercultural programming and advising for the campus. Finally, this person will be eligible to provide student immigration education and support as an SEVP Designated School Official (DSO). The ideal candidate will be a bachelor degree holder in a relevant field, with experience working effectively and inclusively with diverse constituencies and international communities, especially in higher education. Experience living, working or studying abroad will be an asset, as will experience with Terra Dotta’s StudioAbroad software. International & Off-Campus Programs plays a vital and central role in the OWU Connection, OWU’s signature program, by providing high impact global educational experiences for all students. Reporting to the Provost, the IOCP Office regularly collaborates with offices across campus. Job Summary: The Assistant Director provides comprehensive support for international and off-campus education initiatives. This includes advising study away students, managing application processes, overseeing information systems, and supporting both outbound and inbound exchange students. The Assistant Director also assists in promoting global learning opportunities and contributes to risk management and reporting efforts. The Assistant Director role requires a positive attitude, especially in fast-paced situations, with an eye towards improving processes and supporting students for OWU Global while being data-informed to support the best liberal arts education possible.

Responsibilities and duties: Student Advising and Support – 20% ? Advise students on study abroad and off-campus programs, helping them select opportunities that align with their academic and personal goals. ? Provide advising, support and guidance for students participating in Travel Learning Courses, Theory-to-Practice Grants, and other global learning experiences within the OWU Connection. Program Administration – 30% ? Manage the application process for off-campus and international programs. ? Manage the system for off-campus program accounts payable and accounts receivable, including financial aid disbursement and customized student program budget reports. ? Manage the approval process, including the provision of feedback, for OWU Connection Go Global general education requirement provisions. ? Maintain the Terra Dotta/StudioAbroad (TDI) ERP system and act as a system administrator. ? Supervise OWU Global Peer Mentors. ? Assist in compiling institutional data, including preparing reports for IIE Open Doors and other external stakeholders. Take lead in maintaining OWU Global data. Programming and Outreach – 20% ? Promote international and off-campus opportunities to students, faculty, and staff. ? Support and help facilitate pre-departure and re-entry programming to enhance student learning and engagement. ? Coordinates on-campus visits of institutional partners. ? Maintain and update the OWU Global website and online program materials. ? Assist the Director with institutional relationship management. Risk Management and Institutional Support – 15% ? Assist in risk management planning and critical incident response for off-campus programs. ? Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours support. Support for the OWU Global Community – 15% ? Support the Director of OWU Global in executing office-wide initiatives and goals. ? Offer support to international students, including in the role of SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO), if needed. ? Assist with the orientation of new international students. Factors contributing success: Required: ? Bachelor’s degree. ? U.S. citizenship or permanent residency (required to serve as a SEVIS DSO). ? Experience with international education at the postsecondary level. ? Excellent communication skills. ? Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. ? Working knowledge of Google or Microsoft productivity products. ? Ability to work in a varied, creative environment with an emphasis on teams and OWU community while providing consistent and kind interactions with diverse students, faculty, staff, and parents. ? Sound professional judgment, entrepreneurial mindset, flexibility, willingness to learn and grow, and the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity. ? Willingness to engage with Ohio Wesleyan University’s mission and aims. Preferred: ? Master’s degree. ? Experience with the Terra Dotta/StudioAbroad (TDI) ERP system ? Experience working as a SEVIS DSO. ? Experience living, working, or studying abroad. ? Proven ability to collaborate with students, faculty, and administrators. |
