Available Title(s): 155-NN_FACULTY - Research Assistant Professor - Career, 156-NN_FACULTY - Research Associate Professor - Career Business Title: Assistant or Associate Research Professor - Career Employee Type: Faculty (+) (Fixed Term) Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: The Opportunity: Conduct research on bioproducts and bioenergy with focus on polymer-renewable fiber composite materials with emphasis on circular economy principles. Requirements include a deep knowledge about wood and natural fiber-based materials, polymer science and engineering, wood chemistry and processing, bio-based polymers, and nanomaterials. Knowledge about processing of wood and natural fiber-based composites (wood plastic composites, fiber panels, and mass timber panels), adhesive bonding mechanisms, and characterization of these materials will be expected. Furthermore, interest and an understanding of synthetic fibers, biochar, material recycling, and end-of-life options, and development of value-added products from varied applications will be essential. This position also requires working with industrial clients in troubleshooting and technology transfer through research as well as client-driven projects as the extension component is a significant aspect of the role. Candidate should be willing to help teach courses in these areas as needed to educate and mentor undergraduate and graduate students through the academic affiliation within the Department of Biological Systems and Engineering (BSE). The appointment will be with the Composite Materials and Engineering Center (CMEC). Rank (Assistant or Associate) will be based on the promotion criteria of the Department of Biological Systems and Engineering and will be shaped by the depth and breadth of the candidate's experience. Additional Information: This is a full time (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime ineligible. Annual Salary: $82,000 - $90,000, Assistant Research Professor; $90,000 - $98,000, Associate Research Professor; Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
