Job Posting Title: Administrator for the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment Job Description: Administrator for the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment POSITION SUMMARY: The Administrator for the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment (Administrator) is responsible for providing a broad range of high-level, day-to-day administrative support to the Director and the other faculty members who teach and maintain active scholarship within the Center, including coordinating a regular conference and managing the administration of the Emphasis in Environmental Analysis for HMC students. Reporting directly to the Director, the Administrator must quickly gain a solid understanding of and appreciation for the overall work of the department and its wide-ranging needs. The Administrator's work requires planning, attention to detail, and importantly, initiative. The Administrator must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond effectively to requests both from the Director and other Center members. In addition, the Administrator often serves as the 'face' of the Center to others in the HMC community and to those unaffiliated with the college, and therefore interacts frequently with students, faculty, and staff at HMC and the other Claremont Colleges, and with outside vendors, visitors, and others. The Administrator must be highly organized, proactive, professional, independent, and goal oriented. Strong written and verbal communications skills are essential for success in this position. A knowledge of basic accounting principles is strongly preferred. Familiarity with software used by the college including Workday, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace is also strongly preferred. The Administrator must have the work ethic, integrity, and temperament to professionally manage their work and interactions in a high-energy, diverse, and visible organization. The Administrator is expected to be able to work with limited supervision within the department office, exercising sound judgment and discretion. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Remote Work Eligibility: All staff positions, regardless of remote work eligibility, require an initial 30-calendar-day on-campus work period. Based on an evaluation by the Area Leadership Group (supervisor, area leader and area Cabinet member) and HR this position is classified as Category B as defined in the College's Remote Work Policy, with occasional ad-hoc remote work flexibility (as needed). Upon approval by the area Leadership group and HR, while this position is not eligible for standard remote work days during the academic year, the person in this role may work up to 1 remote work day per week during the non-academic year. Please note these days may vary depending on departmental and College needs. Additionally, remote work is subject to the College's remote work policy. The College reserves the right to revoke or modify a remote work arrangement for any staff, at any time, and for any reason as articulated in the College's remote work policy. Standard working hours for this position will generally be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though these hours may vary depending on departmental and College needs. All remote work arrangements, including ad-hoc remote work, must be approved by the direct supervisor, area Cabinet member and Human Resources, and are subject to periodic review based on institutional needs. These arrangements are neither guaranteed nor considered entitlements and may change due to factors such as employee performance, evolving business needs, or changes to the position. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hours: Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, days and hours may vary due to the needs of the department or the College. Classification: This is an exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible position. Salary: The anticipated starting salary is $68,640 annually. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Reports To: This position reports to the Director of the Hixon Center for Climate and the Environment. Additional Information: This job description defines the essential job duties of the position.
