Skyline College is part of the San Mateo County Community College District and is designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), enrolling approximately 16,000 students each academic year. The Position:
The position serves as the academic manager responsible for leading, planning, developing, organizing, implementing, supporting, and evaluating the Allied Health programs (Emergency Medical Care, Respiratory Care Associates, and Baccalaureate, Sterile Processing, and Surgical Technology) and services within Skyline College. Under direction, the position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Allied Health as well as directing the work of other staff and faculty while maintaining effective partnerships and working relationships. Public contact is extensive and includes students, faculty, staff, other educational institutions, community and business representatives, governmental agencies and the general public, for the purpose of exchanging technical and procedural program information and services, and adequately representing the college and Allied Health programs. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to resolve a variety of minor and major problems that arise. Consequences of errors in judgement can be costly in employee and staff time, public relations, accreditation, and money; however, management controls limit the risk of more serious consequences. As a member of the college leadership team, the Director is held to the Leadership Standards of Excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the scope of work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to this classification.

The position requires the ability to elicit and bring focus to recommendations from state agencies, hospital consortia, and clinic personnel, students, faculty, staff, and administrators. It also calls for organizational skills that enable the performance of duties in a timely manner and with attention to detail.

The following are specific duties and responsibilities:
  1. In concert with faculty and staff, develops program goals and outcomes, curriculum course objectives, and learning activities for the Allied Health programs
  2. Assures compliance with the rules and regulations of the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC), Accrediation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA), Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards (NAEMSE) in addition to supporting, documenting, and maintaining successful accreditation for all Allied Health Programs
  3. Coordinates and orients Allied Health faculty and staff
  4. Serves as a liaison between the college and community agencies in the planning and coordination of clinical facilities
  5. Oversees the marketing, recruitment, admission, and progress of Allied Health Program cohorts
  6. Participates in all Allied Health Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings and receives input from representatives of community agencies
  7. Supports faculty in classroom instruction and student activities for all Allied Health Programs
  8. Utilizes college resources in writing grants and reports, and for planning and
    administering program budgets
  9. Participates actively with other managers in planning processes and in addressing college concerns
  10. Coordinates the ongoing process of program evaluation
  11. Encourage program innovation and renewal in response to changing community, demographic, technological, student, and industry/workforce needs
  12. Facilitates effective communication and collaboration among Allied Health faculty and staff across the division
  13. Provides leadership and administrative support to Allied Health programs such as budgeting, purchasing, hiring, and evaluating employees
  14. Serves as key emergency prevention, preparedness, and response personnel as assigned
  15. Commits to and acts in accordance with the Leadership Standards of Excellence
  16. Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possession of a Masters degree or above from an accredited college or university in Allied Health fields, Education, or Administration OR the equivalent
  • A minimum of two years experience in Career Technical Education (CTE)
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff


Physical Requirements:
This classification requires attention to details; oral and written communication; data interpretation, comparison and analysis; visual acuity and comparison; tact, patience, confidentiality and sensitivity; public speaking to small and large groups; manual dexterity; good listening and memory; coordination of the work of others; persuasive communication; negotiation; work under deadline pressure; adaptability and flexibility to perform the essential functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the community at large
  2. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams to effectively reach project goals and outcomes
  3. Experience with the organization and implementation of various complex personnel and office procedures, policies, and documentation
  4. Knowledge of and experience with Career Technical education policies, partnerships, accreditation, and procedures
  5. Active involvement in professional association(s) related to Allied Health fields
  6. Understanding of and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college
  7. Experience in integration of pedagogies that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skills
  8. Familiarity with the use of instructional technology and media to enhance teaching and student learning
  9. Experience in directing the work of others and in providing positive problem-solving and conflict management skills
  10. Experience in designing, supporting, and assessing employee development
  11. Demonstrated skills in leadership, development, and coordination of program services
  12. Skill in the use of a variety of software to create spreadsheets, reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  13. Skill in communicating respectfully, sensitively, and effectively with people who are diverse in their academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds

Benefits include paid holidays, vacation and sick leave. The District pays all or a portion of monthly medical plan premiums (depending on the coverage) and pays all of the monthly dental and vision plan premiums for employees and eligible dependents.
