Journeyman Lineman

General Statement of Responsibilities

Performs overhead and underground electric line construction and maintenance, as well as the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of a Foreman.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, driving trucks, operating equipment, loading and unloading material, climbing poles, working from aerial man-lift devices, tree trimming/clearing.

Supervision Received

Works under the General Manager’s general supervision, receiving lead direction from the Foreman or Working Foreman.

Supervision Exercised

Supervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. However, this position is responsible for holding others accountable to provide information, paperwork, or other deliverables that are needed for operations.

Essential Functions

• Installs, operates and maintains overhead and underground facilities according to CPC standards and the NESC.
• Investigates service interruptions; sectionalizes and/or clears damaged equipment with maximum regard to public safety and speedy restoration of essential services.
• Uses electric line construction equipment including, but not limited to, stringing equipment, backhoes, derrick diggers, material handlers and trucks.
• Efficiently and safely performs line work on a pole or in a bucket truck.
• Troubleshoots electric transmission, distribution and customer service problems.
• Performs electrical “hot” work.
• Makes service connects and disconnects.
• Loads and unloads material.
• Possesses and displays a working knowledge of work rules and safety practices.
• Responds with sound judgment to unusual and hazardous circumstances.
• Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
• Represents CPC in a manner conducive to good public relations.
• Subject to call out in case of emergency; participates in scheduled standby duty rotation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent

IBEW Journeyman Lineman status required before hire date.

Valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) and associated Medical Examiners Certification

Reside within 30 road miles or show-up time of not more than 35 minutes door-to-door from home to the Monument headquarters.

Union membership is required within 30 days after hire date as a condition of continued employment

Physical Demands of Position

The job duties of the Lineman require lifting in excess of 100lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 100lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100lbs of exertional force.  Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead.  Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.

Must be able to work in variable weather conditions including temperatures in excess of 80F or below -10F, large amounts of snow, and long periods of darkness. Must be able to work long hours in stressful conditions when restoring power during storms or other outages.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position. This position requires that the employee be available for work outside the normal daily work period. Travel may be required within the three-county service territory during the business day and infrequently overnight.
