The University of Minnesota's central Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking an experienced technologist with leadership skills to serve as the Identity Product Owner for our Identity and Access Management team. The Product Owner oversees OITâ™s strategy, functionality, and production operations related to our identity management platform, utilizing Agile principles and the Scaled Agile Framework to prioritize work and deliver value. Additionally, the Product Owner will play a key role in modernizing our identity platform by guiding the transition from Oracle Identity Manager legacy systems to SailPoint and Okta, while ensuring secure, scalable, and user-friendly access across the University. This is a high-impact role that blends product leadership, technical understanding, and stakeholder engagement.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership: - Lead the definition and refinement of product team work to ensure alignment with IAM program objectives, providing clear, actionable guidance that enables the team to design, build, and deliver high-quality solutions.
- Possess the ability to lead the product team in quarterly planning events to define features and break them down into user stories with enough detail so that a scrum team can build, test, and deploy the features.
- Oversee the analysis, design, development, testing, documentation, and installation of systems and process changes to ensure application integration and interoperability, timely deliverables, project success, and quality, while adhering to enterprise technologies and services life cycles.
- Facilitate change management planning efforts with the Release Train Engineer, Service Owner, and the Office of Information Technology Communications team.
Collaboration: - Collaborate with architects, engineers, other product owners, service owners, product managers, the senior director, and various stakeholders to define actions within the product backlog.
- Provide feedback on work in progress, clarify requirements, and help remove roadblocks or impediments. Look for opportunities for continuous improvement in the team and processes.
- Handle multiple technologies/services under a single product
- Participate in SAFe/Agile meetings, including, but not limited to: ART Synch, strategy meetings, system demos, iteration planning, program increment, and system demos.
- Be effective at representing the product to stakeholders, management, and team members.
- Provide subject matter expertise for the technologies, services, and future capabilities of the product.
- Collaborate with clients and technical teams to resolve complex issues, taking into account technology capabilities and desired business outcomes.
- Serve as the main point of contact and communication channel between the product team and its stakeholders.
