PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions. Successful candidates are eligible for board certification and for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

Overview

The PGY1 Residency Program at IU Health Bloomington emphasizes the development of advanced knowledge and application of pharmacotherapeutics in the provision of multi-disciplinary, quality patient care. This program cultivates the skills of practice management and education as well as the professional attitudes of self-evaluation, self-improvement, and accountability.

The successful resident will demonstrate a desire to learn, sincere interest in the profession, and dedication to achieving all outcomes of the residency. IU Health Bloomington is a regional, community-based setting that serves the South Region of the statewide system. Pharmacy services equally focus on acute and ambulatory care.

Required Rotations

Each PGY1 resident is required to successfully complete eleven month-long rotations. The resident’s rotation preferences will be considered when making and adjusting the rotation schedule. Rotations are required to cover the following areas of practice:

Adult Medicine
Ambulatory Care
Cardiovascular
Critical Care — Adult
Emergency Medicine
Infectious Diseases and Antimicrobial Stewardship
Required Longitudinals
- Staffing – Every 3rd weekend (Friday PM, Saturday and Sunday days), one winter and one summer holiday, two weeks at the end of December, inpatient operations or clinical
- Research, MUE, and Education Experiences
December rotation will be a Research and Staffing block.
