Job OverviewThe Department of Biological Sciences is a collaborative research community with research foci in Sensory Biology and Behavior (SBB), Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Physiology (MBGP), and Ecology, Evolution, & Conservation (EEC). This position will interact with and complement these departmental research foci. Within the university, interactions and interdisciplinary collaborations are also encouraged with faculty in the College of Arts & Sciences (e.g., Psychology, Physics and Chemistry), the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (e.g., Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science), and the College of Medicine (e.g., Gardner Neuroscience Institute). Further opportunities for connection and collaboration exist through interdisciplinary entities such as the Center for Cognition, Action, and Perception and the Institute for Research in Sensing. The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Cincinnati seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computational Neuroscience with research areas including, but not limited to: ? Modeling and method development for analyzing nervous system function ? Computation and function of sensory systems and their interactions ? Theoretical analysis of neural and behavioral processes ? Modeling of neural circuits underlying behavior ? Information processing and computational principles in neurons and neural circuits ? The use of robotics, big data, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence in research Essential FunctionsDuties for this position include: ? Developing and maintaining an externally funded, internationally recognized research program in computational neuroscience in the applicant?s area of expertise. ? Teaching existing and/or developing new courses such as neuroscience, computational biology and/or biological statistics at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. ? Direct supervision of MS and PhD students, which includes ensuring progress in research and development of dissertation projects. ? Participate in relevant service to the department, college, university, and profession including but not limited to serving on committees and contributing to the development of biology-related programs. Minimum RequirementsPrior to effective date of appointment, all of the following: ? A PhD in Biology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field, with relevant expertise in computational neuroscience as demonstrated by at least 2 peer-reviewed publications. ? Six (6) months of postdoctoral or other professional research experience following PhD completion. Application Process
