Created by the Maine Legislature in 1977 to provide long-term care services to Maine’s Veterans and eligible family members, we continue today to operate as an independent, nonprofit organization. We opened our first home in Augusta in 1983. Since then, we have established locations in Caribou, Scarborough, South Paris, Bangor and Machias. We Are Independent of the VAMVH is a separate, nonprofit organization from the Department of Veterans Affairs. We rely on the generous donations of individuals and organizations to help enhance the quality of life for residents by providing funds for activities, equipment, and facility projects. Our highly skilled staff are specially trained to provide the physical, emotional, and mental support and care Veterans need.
