Position Overview

The Controller will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day Business Office activities, overseeing financial accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, and assisting as needed with payroll and employee benefits administration. Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions. Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results, and coordinating and preparing internal and external financial reports incorporating Forman School financial statements. 

The ideal candidate must have a CPA and prior experience as a controller or assistant controller at a school or nonprofit organization, and be highly organized, proactive, and diplomatic. They should be able to manage multiple priorities with discretion and professionalism, and have the ability and commitment to contribute to the mission of Forman School.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing/overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Business Office, including all financial accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll activities.
• Maintaining current working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP); ensuring appropriate financial policies and internal controls are implemented and followed.
• Monthly, reconciling all cash, checking, and investment accounts; reviewing and reconciling general ledger accounts; and preparing appropriate journal entries as necessary.
• Leading and coordinating the annual financial statement audit and 403(b) plan audit process with Forman School’s outside auditors.
• Preparing/submitting documents for completion of IRS Form 990, Forms 5500, 1094-C, and 1095-C Forms to Forman School’s outside auditors.
• Preparing financial statements and analyses, and preparing and distributing monthly departmental budget reports.
• Collaborating with the Development Office staff to follow policies and procedures regarding reconciling fund designation for cash receipts and pledges; managing endowed funds accounting, and providing stewardship reports upon request.
• Preparing the monthly financial and accounting reporting package and presenting the information to the Forman Board of Trustees Finance and Investment Committee at its monthly meetings.
