| Clinical Staff Pharmacists are responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. Through various assignments within the department, they provide support of centralized and decentralized medication use systems as well as deliver optimal medication therapy to patients with a broad range of disease states. All pharmacists are responsible for drug preparation and distribution for medications; evaluating, inputting and verification of medication orders; assisting providers and other health care professionals by serving as a drug information resource; monitoring and managing medication regimens per protocol or per consult; and managing pharmacy inventory. The pharmacy departments include inpatient, community pharmacy, specialty, and medication therapy management. Members of the department are composed of 16 pharmacists, 18 technicians, and 3 pharmacy care coordinators. The pharmacy staff has th...e opportunity to mentor and teach pharmacy students from University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, Sullivan College of Pharmacy, Lipscomb College of Pharmacy, and Belmont College of Pharmacy. Pharmacists participate in advancing the practice of pharmacy by precepting residents in our ASHP accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program and by having a presence in our Family Medicine Residency Program. Pharmacists and technical staff serve as a critical component in safe medication management for the best possible patient outcomes.
