Surgical Scheduler

The Surgical scheduler maintains surgical schedule for Physicians, which includes daily communication to keep everyone apprised of updates. This position involves coordinating with laboratory and radiology appointments, referrals and directs patients to the proper services with all needed requisitions. Maintains patient charts and logs and provides secretarial support as well as assisting with registration and billing.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinates surgical dates with patients.
• Schedules correct surgery in appropriate rooms, OR, minor, in-patient and outpatient.
• Coordinates assistant surgeons within the office and other offices.
• Provides patients with proper pre-surgical preparations; bowel preps, medication restrictions, fasting, medical clearance, pre-admit testing.
• Obtains proper CPT and ICD-10 coding.
• Obtains necessary authorizations from insurance companies. Fax booking sheet including coding and authorizations information, consents, physician orders, histories & physicals, and medical clearances to surgical booking.
• Enters all pre- admit testing orders into the EMR for physician to review and sign.
• Assures all billing information is provided by physician on billing card before sending to billing department.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience:

1-3 Years' experience in healthcare and surgical scheduling, supervisory experience, and medical assistant experience preferred.

Education:

College graduate preferred.
