| Employment Terms: Full Time, Permanent Start date: September 2026 The Kindergarten Teacher works in a student-centered and collaborative early childhood team. The role’s mandate is to ensure that the values and principles of UCC’s Strategic Directions and the International Baccalaureate are at the centre of learning experiences for students and the building of relationships with colleagues, parents, and students. As an IB World School, UCC’s early years program is grounded in the principles of the Primary Years Programme (PYP), which emphasizes inquiry, play-based learning, and the development of the whole child. Our JK and SK students will engage in hands-on, meaningful learning experiences that build foundational skills, spark curiosity, and foster international-mindedness from the very beginning. The Kindergarten teacher plans and designs curriculum and learning experiences that are based on the understanding of the unique early childhood stage of development. They bring joy to their role and work in a collegial, transparent, creative, collaborative, and humble manner. This role continuously uses reflection and feedback to improve teaching practice and stays up-to-date on current educational research, is tech-savvy and willing to contribute to the greater school community. Key Responsibilities and Tasks Academic - Collaborate with other Kindergarten teachers, Primary Years Coordinator and Primary colleagues, develop units of inquiry, ensure lessons adhere to Ontario Ministry curriculum guidelines;
- Deliver a child-centred, developmentally-appropriate and inquiry-based program;
- Ensure a focus on early-literacy and numeracy skills, in appropriate individual, small group and whole class settings;
- Work collaboratively with the educational assistant and Kindergarten specialist to develop holistic and integrated learning experiences involving art, music, French and physical literacy;
- Assess students’ progress, provide meaningful feedback, document learning, and communicate progress;
- Integrate the values of pluralism, wellbeing, service and community into learning experiences for the boys;
- Support the development of social-emotional learning and self-regulation;
- Establish a supportive, caring and effective teaching and learning environment;
- Communicate regularly with students and parents;
- Use technology in the classroom to enhance learning;
- Partner with community members within and beyond the College (ex: reading buddies, partner school collaborations, parent volunteers in the classroom);
- Keep up-to-date with research in early childhood pedagogy, teaching resources and related strategies, and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities;
- Engage meaningfully in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and various professional development opportunities;
- Collaborate with colleagues within the department and beyond, with humility and openness to feedback on all aspects of the role, from students, parents and colleagues;
- Establish effective, supportive and caring relationships with students; consistently demonstrating care and support for the whole child;
- Communicate regularly and meaningfully with parents;
- Ensure that school policies, practices and standards are maintained;
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization and planning;
- Participate fully and collaboratively in a shared approach to the Primary Years form advising programs, weekly routines and processes;
- Participate fully in all aspects of Norval Outdoor Campus programming.
Co-Curricular, Coaching, Supervisory - Supervision duty as assigned;
- Participate in, where appropriate, planning committees to support our co-curricular or all-school programming;
- Lead with skill, passion and enthusiasm, identified activities in our co-curricular program, including the arts, coaching and intramural games.
Other: - Ensure that school regulations and standards are maintained.
Job Requirements Experience, Knowledge and Competencies: - Bachelor of Education; with Ontario Teachers’ Qualifications in the Primary-Junior Grades;
- 2 years experience teaching in Kindergarten settings required;
- Teaching certificate issued by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT);
- Experience with lesson planning, curriculum development, and classroom management;
- Experience in the teaching of early literacy and numeracy, as well as special education is beneficial;
- Experience in equity, diversity, pluralism, and inclusion.
- Knowledge of the assessment of evaluation practices as outlined in the "Growing Success" ministry document;
- Understand the impact of privilege and power in communities and workplace environments;
- Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry Curriculum, Ontario Kindergarten Document and the IB PYP programme an asset;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong professional relationships with students, colleagues, administration and parents;
- Exemplary communication, problem-solving, negotiation and mediation skills;
- Concern for the whole student and an ability to create a caring and supportive environment;
- Effective team member with strong attention to detail, organization and planning;
