Professional Position Details: The Opportunity: As the Assistant Manager, you will report to the Beef Operations Manage and be prepared to step into the Manager role when needed. In this position, you will take full ownership of specific program operations including: animal nutrition, leading and developing educational programs and developing and implementing safety programs. You will be responsible for planning, timing and directing personnel resources, and facilities for major beef herd and feedlot events such as calving, breeding, nutrition and feeding, health care, forage utilization, and pasture grazing schedules, livestock sales. These efforts support the Washington State University (WSU) Meats Laboratory, WSU Premium Beef and WSU Premium Wagyu Beef. In collaboration with the Manager, you will coordinates resources, time and facility issues, communication and logistics to support the simultaneous use of the Beef Center and Cattle Feeding lab for research, extension, and classes. You may also be assigned to teach classes by the departmental chair. You will play a key role in implementing the Beef Center and Cattle Feeding Lab's animal care and nutrient management plans, and serve as an important representative of the Department of Animal Sciences and WSU to the beef industry. Your typical schedule will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but you must be flexible and willing to work weekends when animal care, teaching, research, or extension activities require it. Percentage Breakdown of Job Functions: 40% - Animal Care 20% - Research, Outreach, Instruction, and Special Projects 15% - Personnel Supervision 10% - Budget Responsibilities 10% - Facilities Maintenance 5% - Other Duties Additional Information: This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. Overtime eligibility will be determined based on final salary placement. Monthly Salary: $4,508.70 - $6,763.06 Monthly | Commensurate with experience and qualifications In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. THE DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCES: The Department of Animal Sciences at WSU offers the only four-year Animal Sciences degree in Washington state. Research in Animal Sciences is focused on mission-oriented and fundamental research in the areas of sustainable resources for society and sustaining and improving animal and human health. These research foci include animal behavior and well-being, environmental sustainability, genomics and genetics, muscle biology, nutrition, reproductive biology and physiology.
