| Department Summary The Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures was established in 2014 to realize a sustainable, equitable, globally interconnected future for the Japanese humanities. Its activities include the advancement of scholarship on Japanese literature and the arts; support for literary translation; public programs on performance, film, design, music, art, food, and architecture; and the creation of digital educational content. Position Summary Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Associate Director, the Program Manager has primary responsibility for the strategic development, implementation, and management of outreach, communications and marketing for the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC). Responsibilities of this position include: manage public events on and off campus in coordination with multiple collaborators and participants; under the direction of the Associate Director, develop, strategize and implement communications and publicity for program activities, including writing and editing copy and creating or coordinating graphic presentations for website, social media, videos/photography, listserves, and other marketing outlets; create and implement marketing strategies for distribution of program items, including catalogs and posters; promote and coordinate academic opportunities for visiting graduate students (VGRs), and small grants programs; coordinate with collaborators in Japan to organize joint international programs and produce bilingual English and Japanese marketing materials; provide support and information to long and short-term visitors regarding travel, housing, and campus resources and policies; and other duties as needed. Hybrid/remote work possible. Occasional in-person evening and weekend hours required. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.
