Director of Nursing Medical Surgical Services

The Position 

• The Director of Nursing, Medical-Surgical Services, will lead the strategic and daily operations of 12 medical-surgical units across two campuses, ensuring alignment with UHS standards and playing a central role in maintaining the systems, processes, and outcomes that reflect the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
• This leader will report to the Vice President of Nursing.
• This position will provide oversight for both UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
• This leader will be responsible for the growth and development of Nurse Managers, focusing on accountability to outcomes. They will review care delivery models and determine if new models can be implemented across the system. Lastly, this leader will focus on nurse-sensitive indicators such as pressure injury reduction and improving the patient experience.
• Ideal candidates will possess both strategic and operational acumen, with the ability to unify teams and service lines across the organization. The role requires results-driven leaders who can inspire lasting change and foster continued growth. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills will be critical. Experience with Magnet Journey designation or Lean Six Sigma training is highly preferred.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Nursing, or a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a Master’s in Business or a healthcare-related field.
• Active RN license required.
• A minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, along with at least two years in a management position, is required.

Compensation Range

• The base salary range for this position is $135,000 to $203,000 annually. In addition, a leader may be eligible for other benefits, including but not limited to health insurance coverage, retirement benefits, and bonuses. The total compensation for the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The base salary range listed above is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

• UHS Hospitals, a part of the United Health Services Healthcare system, provides general medical, surgical, rehabilitative, and emergency care to the people of the Greater Binghamton area and surrounding regions.
• UHS Wilson Medical Center is a 280-bed. It is a 24-hour, New York State-designated Level II trauma center. Also, a stroke and chest pain center. It is a regional referral center for such high-level medical and surgical services as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery and neurosciences, cancer care, emergency care, maternity and high-risk obstetrics, neonatal intensive care, ambulatory surgery, diabetes education and care, blood disorders treatment, and physical therapy and rehabilitation. Our Johnson City hospital trains physicians through a long-standing and highly respected Medical Residency Program.
• UHS Binghamton General Hospital is a 220-bed hospital and provides general medical clinic services such as surgical, rehabilitative, and emergency care to the people of greater Binghamton area and surrounding regions. It offers 24-hour emergency care and operates such major regional programs as orthopedic surgery, bariatric care, wound care, physical therapy and rehabilitation services, chemical dependency treatment service, behavioral health program, sleep center and gastroenterology laboratory at our medical clinic.
