Overview
The salary range for this position is $31.25 - $32.75 per hour depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

KPBS serves the greater San Diego community with informative, cultural, entertaining, and educational television, radio, and web programming. KPBS TV/FM is the public television and radio stations for San Diego. Licensed to San Diego State University, KPBS supports and furthers the university's educational and community service mission by informing, enlightening, and empowering its listeners. It does so not only by presenting national and locally produced programming of value to its San Diego audience, but also by producing programming about San Diego and its people for distribution nationwide.

The KPBS Production Services department works as a team in collaboration with other departments to enhance the operations of KPBS. The department oversees and provides content for television, radio and digital media production, post-production, field production, graphics, studio rental, special events, sales of excess capacity and projects coordination, design, planning of new facilities and equipment acquisition.

This position is covered under the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreement with KPBS.

Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Production Services Manager, the Videographer/Studio Technician is responsible for participating as technical crew in KPBS studio and field productions and other special shows, events, and projects. The position includes oversight of and/ or assistance with camera operation, lighting, editing, technical directing, audio for TV and radio live production, radio technical directing, video playback, video shading, graphics, studio maintenance, teleprompter, and associated positions in production.

This position also assists with lighting design for productions and helps develop set designs and plans for construction. Responsibilities may also include mentoring student assistants working in the studio.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

Videography and Production (45%)

Operates studio and field video cameras to capture high-quality footage for professional pre-recorded programming.
Designs, transports, sets up, and operates production equipment including audio and lighting for field and studio productions.
Studio/location lighting and set design.
Participate as technical crew in KPBS studio productions and other special shows and events (i.e. locally produced programs, various outside clients, Pledge Productions and Awards Presentations).
Work individually or with producers, reporters and clients on all aspects of audio and video production.
Actively contribute to pre-production planning and development to strengthen the overall quality and effectiveness of each production.

Post Production & Media Management (25%)

Computer edits video segments on various digital formats/ software.
Assist with media management of digital assets and KPBS library.
Actively participate in the post-production analysis and critique sessions and provide technical expertise.
Perform technical evaluation of programs to assure compliance with station and network standards.

Technical Operations & Support (20%)

Perform first-line corrective and preventative maintenance on video, audio and studio production equipment; complete maintenance reports and report equipment failures requiring more intensive repair.
Assists with the upkeep and repair of studio and production sets and properties.
Maintain equipment inventory and manage field and studio production schedules.

Other Duties and Responsibilities as Assigned (10%)

Provide professional customer service to clients and external partners, communicating courteously, assessing needs within budget limits, and representing KPBS with the highest level of professionalism.
Build production skills in part-time production assistants through mentoring
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrated working knowledge of a range of production techniques, and experience with equipment used in studio and field production.
Ability to learn, understand, and apply techniques used throughout the production cycle: pre-production, production, and post-production.
Knowledge of professional audio and/or video editing software and post-production procedures, techniques, and standards.
Ability to configure, operate and maintain studio and/or field audio, lighting, and associated production equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills to coordinate all facets of radio and television production, including schedules, budgets, and other projects.

Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved.
Ability to exude excellent interpersonal communication skills; establish and maintain cooperative and cordial working relations with a wide range of internal and public contacts.
Demonstrated excellence in communication; ability to write and disseminate information about activities, programs, and objectives.
Ability to work weekends, holidays, overtime, early and late shifts when requested.

Minimum Experience

6-months of experience in media production (experience focused in one or more core areas depending on position: pre production, photography, videographic design, multimedia, post production or distance learning)

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field.
