Hourly Range 31.05Overview The responsibilities associated with this position include several aspects of preparation, operation, and maintenance of the EM/IF laboratory. It includes processing, embedding, thick sectioning, and thin sectioning of clinical specimens under the supervision of management. This all must be performed while maintaining proper specimen identification and resulting in high-quality slides and micrographs to ensure optimal patient diagnosis and treatment. Responsibilities include also ancillary tasks that support the function and maintenance of the laboratory. The candidate will routinely hand process and embed specimens for electron microscopy studies. He/She will perform specialized laboratory tests and procedures in electron microscopy (fixation, processing, sectioning, staining, mounting of specimens for analysis in the Electron Microscope). Tests for and ensures quality controls of slides and specimens. The candidate should have the ability to identify important features and structures of histology in tissues and should be able to prepare stock and working solutions of laboratory chemicals, as well as maintaining and ordering supplies. The ideal candidate will be able to provide coverage and support of additional laboratory duties when necessary. This includes processing tissue for Immunofluorescence (freeze, cryo-sectioning, and staining of specimens for analysis in under the IF microscope). The candidate should be familiar with following SOPs and laboratory practices in accordance to state and federal regulations (CAP, OSHA, and JCAHO). Essential Duties 1. Prepares specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other matter for analysis and diagnosis using specialized laboratory techniques. 2. Embeds, cuts thick and thin sections, prepares and stains grids for EM imaging. Takes images of specimens in the EM microscope for diagnosis by a pathologist. 3. Use Cryosection to prepares slides and stains for IF, if needed. 4. Performs specialized laboratory tests and procedures in such areas as histology, IF, and EM. Records results. 5. Tests for and ensures quality control of slides and specimens. Sets up, operates, and maintains laboratory equipment. 6. Serves as a source of information on specialized laboratory techniques and equipment operation. 7. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 8. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities. 9. Learns the basics of the science being done in the lab, particularly renal biology.
2. Ability to consistently follow SOPs and laboratory practices to state & federal regulations (CAP, OSHA, and JCAHO). 3. Prior experience in histology, immunofluorescence, or electron microscopy laboratory. 4. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Interprets and analyzes results of test and procedures. 2. Tests for and ensures quality control of slides, specimens and cultures. Sets up, operates and maintains laboratory equipment. 3. Oversees and instructs support staff. Serves as a source of information on specialized laboratory techniques and equipment operation. 4. Prepares specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other matter for analysis and diagnosis using specialized laboratory techniques. 5. Stains and mounts slides, prepares specialized solutions and media; and cultures tissues. 6. Develops and modifies laboratory techniques and procedures. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May photograph specimens and other matter and develop film. 7. Performs additional functions incidental to laboratory activities.Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree, or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
