Chief Financial Officer

Position Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer will provide executive level leadership for financial functions of the Volusia County School. Responsibilities include:

• Initiate and follow through on all major issues as prescribed by the Superintendent.
• Supervise and advise on all financial planning activities of the school board.
• Coordinate and communicate the financial status of the school system.
• Assist in the preparation of school board agendas and material and make presentations to the school board concerning
• curriculum and school improvement.
• Coordinate school and district level financial services as directed by the Superintendent.
• Align financial services with the needs and priorities of schools and district departments.
• Relieve the Superintendent of administrative detail, and through appropriate staff, of financial functions and details.
• Attend to conformity of the system’s financial operations with school board policies and administrative directives.
• Oversee compliance with all laws, statutes, rules, policies and procedures governing assigned functions.
• Assist in the formulation, recommendation and oversight of district policies, procedures and the communication system of the
• Assist the Superintendent in the evaluation of personnel as required.
• Direct the planning for and coordinate the implementation of financial services programs, including federal and state funded projects.
• Monitor proposed state and federal legislation relating to financial services.
• Assist in the development of the district’s legislative program.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual review and modification of the District Strategic Plan.
• Participate in the collective bargaining process to determine fiscal impact on district resources.
• Assist the Superintendent in all financial and business responsibilities and duties as outlined in Section 1001.50; Florida Statutes.
• Serve on the Superintendent’s cabinet.
• Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
• Maintain knowledge and communication of state and federal laws governing the finances of the school system.
• Maintain communication with legislators, the Department of Education and appropriate organizations and associations regarding the financial impact of proposed legislation to the local school district.
• Provide leadership in working with district and school level staff and the community in assessing needs of the district.
• Build and maintain relationships with key community leaders and organizations.
• Coordinate collection and compilation of data and preparation of reports related to financial services.
• Coordinate presentation of items relating to financial activities for school board meetings and workshops.
• Respond to correspondence and inquiries related to financial services.
• Monitor the office operations of the division, including leave requests and purchase orders.
• Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
